I think that I built this one up in my mind too much before visiting. I am a quilter and was super excited that there was a quilt museum. I had visited several quilt museums in other states before and was excited that there was one in the Denver Metro area. The museum is now in a converted light industrial warehouse area and consists of one large room and one small room. The price of $12.00 seemed a little high for what was available.
When we visited, there was a display of art quilts. These were interesting, but the was no balance with the more traditional quilting methods. In addition, the art quilt exhibit showed multiple quilts from the same quilters. This may be because so many fewer quilters do these types of quilts. After all, they are not traditional quilts and are more of a textile decoration. I am sure it could be better on a future visit, but I feel like it was OK for now. I hope that I will be able to convince my future self to give it another try...
Read moreSince Quilting is a form of art, I viewed this more as an art collection rather than a museum. They had many quilts on display. I believe the quilts where made by a small group of woman on a small Asian Pacific island near Japan. This was the majority of items on display in the larger room, the docent said there was quilts in the smaller back room that were of the American civil war era. When I looked at them they seemed to be reproductions with a photo next to them of the original. This is understandable since a quilt from the civil war era would be very valuable and not be hung loosely and unguarded. Overall I found this place interesting and the ladies at the front desk were friendly and...
Read moreThroughly enjoyed seeing the exhibits. One exhibit was new quilts and another was antique quilts. The antique quilts have a audio tour you can call on your cell phone and listen to. I had a couple questions and the staff was extremely friendly answering my questions. There is a gift shop that, for its’ small size, has an amazing array of products including an impressive supply of reproduction civil war fabrics. I’m not from Denver but I will definitely stop here again on my next trip to town. The museum is kid friendly but children should know how to not touch the quilts. Just like at an art museum you wouldn’t allow children to touch paintings, this is the same...
