I can not stress how terrible this bakery is. They have a long history of closing down randomly for months at a time without letting their customers know that their daily bread delivery will not be fulfilled anymore. They do not respond to repeated phone calls, emails, Facebook messages or any type of communication. They treat their employees so horribly they can not retain bakers for more than ancouple months at a time. Their product is woefully inconsistent due to a new person making the bread every week. They lie, cheat and steal. Do not ever give this company your business, there are plenty of great bakeries in the Denver area and this is one we all need to let fail. Poor business practices and a complete lack of common sense have made Grateful bread a laughing stock amongst restaurants and bakeries in the area. The owners here need to be banned from ever employing another person and owning anything remotely considered a business. They are the worst type of people making a horrible sub...
Read moreHow do I give this place 15 out of 5 stars? OMG this is the Eve to my "no carbs" Adam, but I just can't help it, their bread is SO GOOD. I drive from Denver to Golden just to stand in line. They say time is money but man, when you get their bread into your mouth all that waiting time is SO WORTH IT. Where do I begin with my favourites? The chocolate almond croissant... the jalapeño cheese pretzels; the lavender sourdough; smoked peat barley; pumpernickel; levain; olive... I think I might just list off everything from their menu. I can literally be Bubba to Bubba Gump about their bread. The only thing I hate is that when I'm out of bread, I'm like WHERE CAN I GET MORE!? and have to wait until Saturday. I've never been addicted to anything, but this is crack. So now I just buy a ton of bread and leave it in my freezer, to feed my addiction when for some reason I've run out. And not only that, Kathy and her staff are just such wonderful people. Kathy, I truly am...
Read moreBeen on a kick trying the best bread spots in the metro area. We got a bag of various goodies here during Saturday retail hours. I gotta say, was pretty disappointed. While the pastries were pretty good and likely worth the trip, the bread was middling at best. The crust was extremely tough and the flour didn’t have that strong gluten aroma you typically get with freshly milled, local flour. It’s unclear where they source their flour from, but website suggests from organic CO suppliers.
I hate to give a local small business anything less than 5 stars but my experience and reviews are so dissonant. fwiw, I used to work in a commercial bakery a long time ago (at lower elevation, and more humid environment). I imagine it’s super hard to churn out large batches in a low humidity environment. Low humidity = crustier bread. Probably why sourdough is so popular here and hard to find a good...
