We wanted to find a bar close to where we live for a quick meal and a drink for the football game, so we chose "the Gate." The bar itself was nice and had an outdoor seating area but it looked closed, despite the beautiful weather. It wasn't particularly busy inside which I thought was odd considering it was 1230 on a football Sunday. We picked our own table and our waitress came quickly with food menus and a friendly attitude-- I asked if there was a drink menu as well but she told us they don't have any. No big deal.
I knew I wanted nachos so I ordered the appetizer, which normally comes with ground beef (my preference), but the waitress asked if I wanted the chicken or steak. Assuming that was my only option I chose chicken. It wasn't until after she walked away that I saw on the menu that chicken was a $2.00 upcharge.
Before we could even get a drink ordered, our food came. It took less than 5 minutes which I should have known is never a good sign. My husband got the BBQ pork sandwich, he said it was alright, and jalapeno cheese curds which he loved. My nachos however, were the equivalent of greasy chips with shredded cheese and once frozen chicken breast that were thrown in the microwave for 2 minutes, then slapped with a minimal amount of toppings. All the chips were stuck together in one giant, solid glob of cheese. I honestly could have made better nachos at home, especially for 16 DOLLARS.
We were ready to leave pretty quickly, after watching and listening to our waitress talk loudly with her friend at the bar, who doesn't even work there, while my drink sat next to her waiting to be served.
Chugged the drink, picked at the nachos, paid the tab and left. Will...
Read moreCame to Southgate for the first time. Looked like a pretty decent place. We walked up to the bar to order a drink. The bartender served another customer looked down at the end of the bar where we stood and turned away. 2 other girls who I am assuming we're bartending as well stood at the other end of the bar talking to each other then walked away. The guy bartender walked down to the end of the bar where we sat waiting, looked everywhere but at us. We had to get his attention for him to grab us a drink. BTW he wasn't serving another customer. I went to go try the gaming machines, I sat down at a machine. One of the girls working came around to all 4 machines where I sat and asked everyone if they needed a drink. Proceeded to get them drinks and walked right past me. I played some more and not once was asked if I needed a drink. I had to walk up to the bar and the girl that previously walked right by me asked if I needed anything. I understand they do get extremely busy but when you get blatantly ignored by multiple workers it makes a person not want...
Read moreFood was good but BEWARE of extra charges. Menu said steak quesadilla $12.95 comes with "chips and salsa and one side". When ordering i asked which side i could get and she pointed to "sauces and dips". The menu also has "sides" on it but i was tokd a side is a sauce??? We couldnt get a printed bill..she came with a machine and said mine was $14.57. I said that sounds like a lot of tax. No reply. I paid the bill, added a $3 tip and asked for a receipt. On the receipt Was charged $.60 more And was told when i asked it was for the spicy garlic sauce that was suppised to be my "side" included. Yet the bill says " 1 salsa" . So confused i just let it go. Then after my partner got her bill that was for $23.90 and should have been $21.39, unless she got charged over $2 for a side of blue cheese which was supposed to be free. If I go again, I will insist on a bill printout before I take the servers word that...
