⭐ Artist Point – A Breathtaking Escape in Northern Minnesota ⭐

Artist Point in Grand Marais is an absolute must-visit if you love nature, photography, or just a peaceful place to reflect. It’s the perfect spot to think, write, meditate, or capture stunning photos. Wildlife sightings are common, and the morning seagulls resting on the rocks add to the serene atmosphere as waves crash along the shore.

If you plan to venture out onto the rocks, I’d recommend going barefoot—some areas can be quite slippery! The cool, refreshing water is especially inviting during the hot summer months.

This spot is well worth the drive, whether you stop for an hour or longer. Plus, there are several charming shops nearby to explore. I visited after doing some incredible hikes north of Duluth, and catching the sunrise here made for a truly magical experience.

📸 A must-visit for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone looking to soak in the beauty of the North Shore!

Amazing rocks to explore. There are several paths out to the point. Through the wood is usually the easiest unless it has rained a lot and it can get muddy. For the adventurous, going closer to the shore along the rocks can be enjoyable as it gives opportunities to climb small rock sections. Either way you will be rewarded with a great view of the lake at the point. As you start the walk, if you go to the right you can walk to the lighthouse at the entrance...

Wonderful place of serenity to experience the beauty and soothing effect of nature. Less explorers head this way than they do down the breakwater toward the tower. Beware though: the terrain can get challenging at times for those less capable, and the wet rock can be slippery.

I was impressed with the cleanliness - there was no human trash left behind whatsoever - leaving this beautiful place pristine and intact. More of a peninsula...

Having lived in Grand Marais for 5 years, we found that a walk out to Artist Point, or 'The Point" was a treat, any time of the year. Snow covered in December, it's a strange and wonderful place. Summer walks are leisurely and can include walking the breakwall. Easter Sunrise was always a goal, but our last summer there, we had a baby Easter morning or the day before 11:50 p.m. and missed our last chance. It's the best sunrise in the country.

Easy hike (not wheelchair accessible) for families and pets! Lots of different paths to take to get to different rock points to see various views of the harbor, Grand Marais, and Lake Superior. Make sure to also walk the breakwater trail to check out the Grand Marais lighthouse which is a working lighthouse for the harbor. There is lots of parking and it is free, so make sure to take the time to check out this area when passing by.
