Warning! Do not sell here! I went in yesterday to sell some brand name items in impeccable condition. They consisted of 21 items:
9 unused clothing items with tags on 3 Sperry casual boat shoes 2 Gap brand winter coats 1 Merrell boots 1 Addidas sneakers 1 Michael Kors flip flops 1 Stride Rite dress shoe 1 Harper Canyon dress ballet flat 1 Nordstrom brand winter coat 1 Carter's brand raincoat
My wait for a quote was about 20 minutes (which was timely for a walk-in) and so I decided to check out their prices. The like brand items I could find with gentle use went between $10-15 and so I thought my payoff would at least be more than what I would receive by making a donation and deducting it from my taxes. However, when my quote was ready, they wanted to give me about $56 for 21 items which equates to about $2.67 per item. I was surprised by the low number and so I started to ask about the rating system. For a given brand you get a set number of stars and for any or every imperfection, you get a deduction. They won't itemize the sell and so the customer can't see what they are getting paid for what item. I immediately realized it is in the business's best interest to rate as low as possible so that the customer gets the lowest payout and then sell the item at a much higher price than what was paid. How do I know this? I then went to ONCE UPON A TIME. Not only did I see similar items at a lower price point, Once Upon a Time offered me more money ($3.25 per item!) for the same items I had just tried to sell at Kid to Kid. My advice for Kid to Kid, stop dumping your money into overhead (For instance, branded fancy hangers? This is consignment and not a high end boutique.) and give the customer who is trying to sell quality items...
Read moreIf you’re selling items, check your stuff before you leave the store. Take note of what you take in, what they buy from you and what you leave with. There is some dishonesty going on here. I took 2 large totes slam full of stuff, left and came back. They pulled out a black bin and explained “these are the items we are buying from you, everything else has been placed back in your bins for you to take home.” Well I didn’t really look through the stuff (didn’t even think to, honestly.) but while going through the transaction process, a lady moved a box on a shelf behind the register and i happened to notice 3 pair of brand new shoes (1 pair still had tags on them) that I had brought in that were strangely hiding behind boxes that someone just happened to move. The shelf wasn’t near where they go through the items so I found it odd. I asked what those items were doing over there since I’m not being paid for them and they aren’t in my bin to take home… I couldn’t get anyone to give me any sort of explanation. Well more stuff was moved and more items of mine were found hidden. I asked again about all of my items being placed over on this shelf behind large boxes… a girl called the girl who went through my things over and said “she wants to know why her items are over there…” the girl said “just pay her for them..” and walked off. The whole situation was just fishy and had I not just have happened to look over, I would have never caught this. I wouldn’t have known that they kept brand new items and not paid me for them. The used shoes and clothes that they wanted to give me like a dollar for were in the bin but the things that were more valuable were just hidden. Just beware of this when taking a large amount of things...
Read moreI’ve been shopping and selling at this location for 5 years now, but today was the last time I will sell and I will no longer buy after I finish using my store credit.
The last few times I have sold with them there have been issues, but today was the last straw. I brought in two separate bins - a boy clothing bin and a girl clothing bin. I always separate the items by size and style and lay them flat after ironing them. Today, I needed to do two separate buys because I wanted store credit for the girls box and cash for the boys box. I let them know this upon check in and did two separate check ins - one for each box. There was never any issue upon check in and they acknowledged what I was trying to do.
When they completed my buys and I went to check out, they had combined the buys - the boys and girls clothes were all mixed together. I explained my frustrations and they said well “the person sorting must have gotten confused”. Okay, I understand that…but it was extremely inconvenient and there was a reason I needed it done that way. Not once did any of the employees apologize. Upon finishing the buy and ringing up my items I was purchasing, the cashier no longer spoke to me. She didn’t tell me my total or anything. She just placed the receipt in the bag and slid it my way.
I used to thoroughly enjoy shopping at this location, but it has gone significantly downhill in the last year or two. The owner has always been very kind and has helped me to address previous concerns, but after today, I’m done. I hate it, because this has been a great resource for our family. I will now be going to a different location in Georgia for all our...
