Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at Califas, a gem of a restaurant located near the Haywood Mall. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance struck us with its welcoming and vibrant atmosphere, setting the stage for an unforgettable culinary experience. The menu at Califas is a testament to the culinary creativity and diversity that this establishment offers. We decided to delve into a variety of dishes, starting with their famous birria tacos. These tacos were nothing short of a flavor explosion, with perfectly seasoned and tender meat that was complemented by the fresh and zesty toppings. Each bite was a delightful mix of textures and tastes, making it clear why this dish is a crowd favorite. The serving sizes at Califas are decent, striking a perfect balance between quality and quantity. While I was fully satisfied after the tacos and empanadas, my wife and daughter managed to finish their meals and even shared some empanadas. They felt comfortably full, but the food was so good that they could have easily indulged in more. To sum up, Califas is a culinary haven that I would rate a solid 10/10. The quality of the food, combined with the exceptional service, makes it a must-visit restaurant in Greenville. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful dining experience. In fact, I was so impressed that I contemplated visiting again last night, but I didn’t want to come off as too eager. However, I am already looking forward to my next visit to Califas, which I'm sure will be very soon.

What a great find! I’m always on the lookout for great local spots and this was definitely not a disappointment. It’s tucked away in a shopping center near Haywood mall and I’ve never seen it before today. The inside is small but has a homey atmosphere. The young lady at the front was very friendly and helpful when looking over the menu! I came in on Taco Tuesdays and tried four of their 6 (I think) options: Carne Asada Chicken Al Pastor Birria These are traditional street style tacos so you get a corn tortilla, meat, cilantro, and onions (my style!) They also had a salsa bar (forgot to take a pic) with mild, hot, and salsa verde along with limes, jalapeños, and more cilantro and onions if you wish. I liked the mild salsa best but had to throw in a little hot to hear it up! I love a good spicy salsa, but this seems more like a hot sauce than salsa to me. Salsa verde had good flavor too. Carne Asada was ok. I’ll have to say I love a good carne asada but the beef was dry and a bit fatty for me. Chicken was great! Good flavor and very juicy. Al Pastor and Birria were by far my favorite. Tons of flavor and very juicy! You’ll need plenty of napkins! I would love to see two shells instead of one because they fell apart very easily. All in all, I would definitely go back and I look forward to trying more of their menu items!

A new favorite in my food repertoire! So yummy! I was introduced to this place at Fall for Greenville with their Birria Tacos. Daaang! That was all I could say when I bit into that crispy fried tortilla shell and felt the juiciness of the birria meat all bundled together. I recently visited their brick and mortar location to try more of their dishes. I ordered the Birria Posole. This is something new, not something I have had before. I’ve had Posole, but not with Birria. It’s so tasty!! I added some salsa from their salsa bar to give it more heat, but it’s good on its own. The atmosphere is very inviting. A mural of iconic California sites graces their wall in pretty colors. The place is clean, the people are friendly, prices are fair, and food is great. I will return.

A Symphony Of Flavor

Nestled discreetly amidst the bustling streets of our city, "Califas" is a culinary gem that promises to transport your taste buds to a realm of sublime flavors. With an ambiance that blends contemporary minimalism with warm, inviting tones, this restaurant sets the stage for a remarkable dining experience. However, it is their Birria Tacos that truly steal the show and deserve an in-depth exploration. Upon entering Califas, one is immediately struck by the understated elegance of the establishment. Soft, dimmed lighting casts a gentle glow over polished wooden tables, and the soothing sounds of Latin jazz provide a backdrop that elevates the dining experience. It's an ambiance that encourages leisurely dining and conversation, making it perfect for both intimate dinners and celebratory gatherings. Califas prides itself on impeccable service, and the staff's professionalism and attentiveness are evident from the moment you arrive. They guide you through the menu with knowledge and enthusiasm, ensuring that your dining preferences are met with finesse. Now, let's delve into the culinary masterpiece that has earned Califas its stellar reputation - the Birria Tacos. These tacos are a work of art, a symphony of flavors and textures that dance on the palate. The foundation of Califas' Birria Tacos is the tortilla, and it's clear that these are no ordinary tortillas. They are handmade, warm, and pliable, with a slight char that imparts a smoky essence. The tortillas hold together beautifully, cradling the rich filling without becoming soggy. The star of the show is, of course, the birria itself. It's a tantalizing blend of succulent, slow-cooked beef, marinated in a broth brimming with spices and chilies. The result is a tender, melt-in-your-mouth experience that's simultaneously robust and delicate. Each bite reveals the hours of love and craftsmanship poured into its preparation. In a city teeming with culinary options, Califas stands as a beacon of excellence, and their Birria Tacos are a gastronomic masterpiece. It's a dish that resonates with tradition and innovation, where every component is harmoniously balanced to create an unforgettable culinary experience. Dining at Califas and indulging in their Birria Tacos is not just a meal; it's a journey through the intricate tapestry of Mexican flavors. If you seek an elegant and enriching dining experience, Califas should undoubtedly find a place on your...
