I need to start by saying that I USED TO love this Bishops location before this experience. Now I will never go back. I no longer live in Portland and I make a point to go into Bishops whenever I am visiting to get my hair cut and dyed. I came in and no one was there and got paired with Holly. I wanted it dyed dark brown (as close to black without being black) as possible. At that point all seemed well until she rinsed the dye out and it became super apparent that they color she'd applied wasn't dark enough and all that she'd done was cover my roots (not the dark tips of my hair). She then gave me attitude asking if I wanted her to dye it again. I insisted that she did and she blamed me saying it hadn't covered because the bottom of my hair was black. My hair has never been black. After she dyed it for the second time it was FINALLY all one color. Before the cut I asked for an A-Line with it stacked in the back and told her that I only wanted an inch MAX taken off the front. She made the cut, and continually gave me attitude through the process. I had to ask her multiple times to thin it and to thin more out (I have very thick hair). When she thinned my hair she wouldn't comb it out so as I ran my fingers through it I was pulling out handfuls of hair. It was disgusting. She asked if I wanted her to blow dry it and I told her that I did. She proceeded to only dry the top layer and send me on my way. Being the day before Christmas I left her a good tip even though I'd had such an upsetting experience.
When I got home I blow dryed it the rest of the way since she had left it still very wet and found that NOT ONLY was the left and right side 1/2 difference in length but the back was uneven and she had chopped out chunks. It looked chopping, uneven, and awful. I was so upset and had no idea what to do. I went through Christmas (and Christmas photos with my family) wearing a hat because of how bad it was. Luckily a girl from the Bishops in Sellwood happily fixed Holly's mistake free of charge and gave me an amazing experience! I highly recommend Bishops but please don't waste your money at the Gresham Station location, take your business...
Read more2 stars is me being nice. I ended up leaving without my hair done. I arrived earlier for my appointment and patiently waiting for the lady to do my hair. I was excited to get my highlights done. She said explained to me she was going to try to lift a portion of my already previously died hair from about 3 months ago. It did not lift properly and she said that the time slot would not allow her to properly do highlights (I had 2 slots for both a dye and cut 2-5 for dye and the second slot at 5pm for the cut.) I said okay let just do an all over color she brought out swatches to match my hair which she was not able to match. I then chose a new color. She then came out saying that she did not have the color it was back order. I then said let me choose another color. At that point she was like no I am not comfortable doing your hair. To say the least I was upset that I wasted an hour of my time to then be told she was not going to do my color or cut. She Stating I don’t think you will be happy with the color so I am not going to do it. I told her that I was upset that the highlights could not be done and opted for an all over color the color I pick was out. So I would just pick another color and she said no I am not doing your hair we will need to reschedule you at another time. I am not going to be doing your hair at all. I kindly said I will not be coming back. They are very expensive and do not have the means to do hair color proficiently in my...
Read moreEvery haircut I've had in the last year has been from Melissa at Bishops and there hasn't been a single time that I've left feeling unhappy with my cut. She's a delightful person to talk to, she is excellent at her job, and she is patient and flexible. Every time that I have been uncertain about what to do with some aspect of my haircut, her suggestions ALWAYS end up being right. I've come to trust her more than my own knee jerk reactions (after all, I am not a hair stylist).
I hope Bishops keeps Melissa and other great stylists like her happy with their positions at this salon because I hope she will be there for many years to come. It's nice to show up to a salon and not have to start new with brand new staff. This Bishops does NOT have a high turnover rate.
I also love how Bishops is by appointment only and therefore never requires you to wait in a line. They always have appointments available-- there has never been a time where I have wanted a haircut on a certain day and not been able to get an appointment at least within a couple hours of scheduling.
I've been to other salons (cough Great Clips/Super cuts) where you walk in, there is one or two stylists, 1-2 people waiting, and the stylists won't even acknowledge you because they really just want you to go away. I've never felt like that at Bishops.
There is room to breathe, nice big chairs, a free beer, great atmosphere, friendly stylists and...
