The Vermont Antique Mall is a unique roadside stop that is a must on any vacation or road trip though the upper New England area. The entire property includes on-site parking, a farmers market stall, restaurant, alpaca farm, candy store, toy store, country and general store, the multi floor antique mall, a snack shack, locally owned distiller, and a flea market on Sundays.
The main attraction is the antique mall itself. The multi-floor building is a marketplace with seemingly endless booths of collectors items, trinkets, and decorative pieces that could suite nearly anyone's taste. Words cannot not describe the amount and extent of items for sale and on display. The majority of the booths will appeal to an older crowd but a handful booths offered items such as Pokémon cards, comic books, and non collectable action figures to appeal to younger guest.
We happened to visit on a Sunday when the flea market was taking place, locals from the area had tents and stalls set up in the grass next to the main parking lot where they displayed their wares. They offered similar items to those inside the mall, but they were willing to negotiate on prices unlike the clerks in the mall.
The farm stand between the parking lot and road sold usual farm produce as well as some homemade condiments, the restaurant was closed during our visit aswell as the toy store.
The alpaca farm and clothing store are tucked in the back corner of the place. There is a alpaca feed dispenser so for a small fee you can have the animals eat right out of your hands, the clothing in the neighboring store was nice and looked like it would keep someone warm in colder weather.
The country store had the usual items most country stores have, seasonal home decor and some other items unique to the area. If you visit country stores often you will be familiar with what they have on display.
The general store has many local Vermont food products, brewers, and candies for sale, and you have to walk through it to get into the antique mall.
The snack shack is mostly self explainitory, I got a milkshake and didn't look at much of the rest of the menu, the milkshake was very good.
The final stop is the distillery and spirits store. They only sell their own brand of alcohol and the clerks are very helpful and are able to answer pretty much any question you may have about...
Read moreI went to this antique mall for the first time. I ended up buying a few small framed pics (2 to use as frames for my own art and a nice shell print) spending $44-. I almost bought a nice basket for $28-. My overall impression of the place was an overwhelming jumble of lots of low end antiques and vintage items. Amidst this jumble are definitely some deals mixed in and overpriced items. There were 4 or 5 better booths but I found the items overpriced for what they are. I think that depending on what you’re looking for, such as fun items for kids to collect, books, records, there are plenty.
I go to a lot of antique and vintage stores and have had spaces in a couple of shops in my past, so I may have higher ideals…I love all sorts of shops and love digging through stuff in the dust and barns for a deal as well as looking at well cared for items, this place just didn’t hit the spot. The booths were repetitive, messy in a way that was hard to look at, and I didn’t see much fun or unique stuff.
I wouldn’t make a special trip here but if I happened to be in the area, I would stop in. I feel many people would enjoy it more than I did. Also, help was always available, they are efficient, giving you a number to hold things and ringing things up quickly. They also did a nice wrapping job...
Read moreWe are from Buffalo New York so our idea of antiques I guess is a little bit different this store.... it had a lot of junk that was overpriced, I would not consider 90 percent of any of it as value as far as antiques go. It is also very crowded so be prepared because it can be overwhelming, you do have people who just stop in the aisle to chit chat or don't move over for you to walk by so make sure you are in that mindset before entering. Anytime I've ever gone to an antique shop no matter what city or town I've always left with something but to be honest with you, this place just had absolutely nothing worthwhile which was very unfortunate. Sometimes I'll even scoop up a little bit of costume jewelry or something and they didn't even have any of that and the stuff they did have was just trash and really expensive which was mind-blowing to me.
The building itself looks large but honestly it's not that big inside and there's not much to offer. If I would have known this sooner, I would not have marked this as one of our places to sightsee while in Vermont. If you do not go here I promise you will not be missing out on anything save the cash and go somewhere else...
