My review of Camp Hatteras - OBX, NC This is a whole different feel than other camping resorts because for just a bit more money you can basically have a site just 50 yards from the dunes. We were lucky enough to get site #57 All of the sites, as far as I know are full hookup however cable is an extra charge. The layout of the campground is great and the spots are quite large. There are portions of the campground that seemed like the sites are packed together tighter than others but it’s not as bad as some I’ve been to. Unfortunately you cannot reserve a specific site and you are given the site when you arrive. Check in is at 1:00 (not 12:55 - they are strict about that) and I recommend getting here just at check in time to hopefully secure a better spot. My only issue with the layout is actually the angle of the spots based on the roads - which are all nicely paved! Not stone! The sites are all back in and come off the road at a steep angle making it quite difficult to back in (jackknife) a large rig if you have people setup across the street from you. The roads are narrow and people commonly park just off of them making it worse. If the sites were “less perpendicular” to the road, this would be less of a problem. This is a beach resort... there are no planned activities by the campground. They do have a nice indoor and outdoor pool, basketball, tennis, mini golf and playground. Dumpsters are conveniently placed around the property. There is a camp store with most of the essentials but plan to pay 1.5 - 2x more. There is a discount beach store just outside the campground and a great donut shack! A mile North is a Liberty gas station with a great supply of groceries. The several shower houses were in good order and maintained. They do get increasingly dirty as people come off the beach for the day. There is also a large pavilion at the beach where they do tie-dye but there was no information given about this. The beach is clean however the sand to setup on is quite skinny do to erosion. You cannot have fires on your campsite however many people would go out on the beach at night to have a fire. Just follow all of the NC DNR guidelines on this. The only bad... there is sand everywhere and mosquitoes are savage. Take a ton of torches to burn citronella when you are outside. They are even on the beach when the wind is calm and speaking of wind, while we were here, it never really stopped. Awnings and tents had to stay stowed for 1/2 of our stay. You can also get a site on the sound side which is less windy but a long walk across Rt12 and to the beach. I would certainly stay here again if we wanted to camp the Outer Banks. I give the resort a 9/10 only because I wish they had some planned activities going.

What a waste! We expected more for how much this place cost. We had glass, cigarettes, food, and beer bottle caps all over our site when we arrived. The pictures are just a small sampling of the delicious situation we arrived to. When we cleaned the site ourselves, because no one was available and not answering the phones, we just decided we would ask for a refund on the first night stay. That same night at 11pm, after our kids were asleep, we were abruptly awoken to someone banging on our front door really loudly and then they ran off. We called the campground multiple times but no one answered. We even called the local sheriff department non emergency number but no one answered and the line had a full voicemail message. The next day we spoke with Christy (park manager) who completely refused to refund us. She said it was our fault for not calling them and that they could do nothing for us about the disturbance. We paid over $1000 for an 8 night stay. If we were staying at a state park, I would be more understanding. But with the way the site was left a mess and how defensive Christy was about our issues, we expected some form of reimbursement or concession. I eventually just hung up on Christy after she regurgitated the same statement about how their camp hosts do their job and it was our fault for not calling them to clean up our site… What a massive disappointment his place was. We tried to get a site near by and leave but there were no sites available for our size trailer unfortunately. Be warned. Response to the management: Apparently you can’t read… we did call you… repeatedly… all we asked for was a one day refund and you refused. Saying you are sorry is not good enough. When a patron pays this much we demand things to be done well. When you fail it’s your responsibility to refund them on a reasonable basis. Refunding is one day would have solved the problem. But you instead continue to lean into telling us that we should have called you… OPEN YOUR EARS!!! WE DID AND YOU DIDN’T ANSWER!!! Condescending me for not knowing how to spell your name is pathetic but I am glad you received my email! 🤣😱🤣😱 You won’t last there. You know you won’t. Enjoy it while it lasts. I’m sure your investors will fire you eventually. We won’t be back and we will tell as many people as will listen about you and our experience there. I hope the hassle of dealing with me was worth $100🥳🥳🥳

Please read entire post ♡ I would NOT recommend booking through GoodSam app. We never book through the GoodSam app. However, my hubby came across a double discount add on the app, and booked. To take advantage of the 20% off. I called the campground afterwards to confirm the discount was applied. They said NO discount was applied and said they could apply only a 10% discount. They said that GoodSam had the discount dates incorrect on their app and would not honor the 20% off. Well.... after multiple weeks, multiple calls to GoodSam AND the company that runs their app, I received no supervisor calls back and everyone said it was not their place to honor the 20% off. FINALLY, Y E S T E R D A Y, I got a GoodSam rep on the phone that I had already spoken to multiple times. She said the supervisor that was supposed to call me was gone for the day and she was able to give me a $40 credit in rewards points to spend in Camping World. I would never had pursued the full 20% discount if it was not a $400 reservation. Our stay... I would rate 5 stars because.... The beach/ ocean view was beautiful. The bathrooms were very clean, smelled fresh, and there were locks on the showers. The staff was nice. As the parked filled up, the campground staff appeared to make more rounds on their golf cart to tend to the campground. ****** We arrived during the week and stayed a few days. As the week progressed, the park began to fill up. I don't agree with the pricing or the *resort classification. However, everyone now seems to classify their park as a *resort. The spots on the beach row look upon a tall sand dune. There is no ocean view. I would not pay extra for these spots. There were quite a few Class A's in these. Maybe they were easier to access. The oceanside of the park has a gate. I'm not sure if it was actually locked at night while we were there. I believe maintenance was working on it. There are more expensive spots across the highway. However, they do not have a gate for security at night. And, everyone crosses the street from the oceanside to see the sunset. The view is beautiful, though. We would come back. And probably select a different spot to camp in the park. We will probably not be using the GoodSam app to reserve any more spots. If you find this review helpful, please click the 🤍

I’ve never written a negative review but after choosing Camp Hatteras RV resort in Rodanthe based on YouTube video reviews that painted it in such a positive light, I feel compelled to share that wasn’t our experience unfortunately. While the location is great, and some of the staff were very nice, management may want to consider some of their policies and the consistency in how they enforce them. We called the day before our arrival to see if we could get a spot near our friends who had arrived a couple of days earlier. They had reserved the same type of sight at the same rate as we had. The campground was nowhere close to being full and we were told if we had wanted to be near our friends we should have paid the $25 fee in advance to reserve a specific site. She then told us that next year we will need to pay $25 to have a spot near our friends. Again…there were plenty of available sites in the premium price range that we had reserved so it shouldn’t have been a problem to accommodate our request. We weren’t asking to be right next door to them…just close by. On the day of arrival, we had traveled more than 6 hours and arrived at 12:35pm. We pulled up and were told we couldn’t enter until 1pm and they wouldn’t allow us to park in the staging area to wait 25 minutes where they had multiple lanes open. We understood that check in is at 1 and we would have understood if they were still waiting for people to leave but there was hardly anyone there…the campground was probably not even a quarter full. We were then told if they let us in early we would expect to be able to arrive early next year and we were asked to leave the premises. We drove 20 minutes down the road before we could find a place to turn around and go back. At check in, they assigned us a spot and we drove to set up only to discover we would be directly in front of the garbage dumpsters…our outdoor setup would have been literally feet away from the smell of garbage. Again…there were plenty of other open sites. When we complained about the site they did agree to move us but weren’t very friendly about it. Several days later, we saw a group of RVs that had traveled together and were set up together. They told us they did not pay $25 fees. We also saw RVs checking in before 1pm and given spots on arrival. Overall we were really disappointed with our experience at Camp Hatteras. To be told if we pay $25 next year to be near our friends or if we arrive early next year we would expect to check in early felt as though we were being talked down to or punished in some way. They don’t need to worry about our expectations to stay near friends or arrive early next year because we won’t be returning. And we won’t be recommending this place to our many friends with RVs.
