My wife and I started going to Bensons within the first week of them opening, the first meal or two wasnt the best but we knew it was a new restruant and they needed to work the sytem out etc so we continued to go and over time they greatly improved. However, getting to the last two visits. The time before lastnight, my wife ordered the prime rib, it came out practicaly raw, it was sent back then came out over well done. Granted they did remove it from the bill it was still a disapointment. So we returned lastnight, after seating at the bar, the normal bar tender totaly ignored us and we were served by another bar tender. After ordering our appetizers the waitress wanted to go ahead and take the order for our meal, we declind and told her we would order after finishing the appetizers. Several minutes after waiting and being ignored my wife asked the bar tender could we possibly our food. About that time the hostes screamed at my wife from the front counter accuzing us of being trouble makers from all the way across the restraunt. Then informed us that our busness was not wanted! Keep in mind we have been there many times and always tipped well and never had previous trouble with the servers. Both times that not only us and our frineds had trouble it was when the owner "Wes" was not there and the restruant was being run by his wife. In addition, the staff told us that the owner "The wife" told them to treat us this way! Seriously, who tells there staff to treat repeat customers this way. Needless to say, it has become clear that they dont want a complaint when the food is not served properly, and if you show resistants they they dont like you. At the end, all I can say is the minute you have a issue with your food from previous visits, they no longer want your business. As you can see from the picture, they didnt mind ganging up at the other end of the bar to ignor us. Very...
Read moreThis is our third time at Benson’s. We are trying to figure out what we like here. This time we ordered the smoked tuna dip for an appetizer, but they were out, so we went with the fried green tomatoes. They were pretty good and the serving is large, but I’ve had better (at Crescent City). For our mains, we ordered the filet mignon with the sweet potato casserole and a side salad. The filet was fine, but kind of tough/chewy and it was $44 for an 8oz filet, so you’re expecting it to be top tier. My husband ordered the prime rib, Brussels sprouts, and fries. The prime rib was overcooked, but still tasted good. They are supposedly known for their Brussels sprouts, but they were too sweet and had no seasoning to balance out the sweetness of the chili sauce- there was not even any spice in the sweet chili sauce- seriously lacking salt, acidity, garlic, etc. The best thing we ordered at Benson’s tonight was a margarita on the rocks. 10/10. Our bill was $180 for two mains, 1 appetizer, and a kid’s meal. For the quality of food we received, I would say the bill should’ve been more like $110…. Overall, the atmosphere and drinks were great, but food is a little lacking to justify the price.
Upon looking at other reviews, I felt it necessary to say that I ordered a side salad with my meal, and the salad was just lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and absolutely drowned in ranch. I wound up giving the salad to my daughter because it was just so much ranch. I looked through other reviews and pictures and saw side salads with cheese and croutons… not sure why mine was so plain… seems like simple ingredients they would always...
Read moreI generally don't leave reviews but this place warrants one. Firstly the menu is very vague, the steaks don't come with sides as the menu is written, besides the strip. They actually do but that isn't stated on the menu. We brought our daughter and ordered off the children's menu for her... It had no price listed. 7 dollars for bland chicken strips and fries is a little steep. The owner has replied to several reviews and stated that this is not an upscale restaurant, it's casual. With a "western " flair. The pictures say otherwise as they depict a decent steak house. We ordered the prime rib quesadilla as an app and it was 100% filled with shredded pot roast. I still have it as we ate there 2/7/24 and will be happy to show that. Secondly I was told the steaks are prime grade which they are not. The menu says they are 28+ day aged which all commercial cryovacced beef is. That is a given and shouldn't be mentioned on a menu. So that is the second lie that has been told to me as a customer. Finally one of my sides was grilled asparagus, which costs 6 dollars by itself. I was served 6 small asparagus as my side. The steaks were overcharred and under seasoned. A 24oz choice grade steak with 2 sides for $50? I would like to like this place but for the fact I was lied to multiple times and directly to my face is not acceptable. Our sever was pleasant and that's why it's two stars...
