La Banque de Fleuve — Attraction in Havre de Grace

I am one to harp on the good, not the bad, but here is a rare exception because the wedding industry is so expensive and people spend tons of money and time on their wedding so I wanted to help you all out!

If this venue is on your list, SCRATCH IT OFF! Kim, the wedding director, is BEYOND unprofessional. I sent in an inquiry about the venue. No response. I called, nothing. Finally I left a message and got a response. Kim texted me asking when we could talk. I texted back, no response. I gave her a call and wanted to ask a some questions to get them out of the way before deciding if we should come in, giving that the venue is 35 min drive away each way, not to mention we are in a pandemic! Didn't think it was a tall order, considering their website isn't super helpful.

Kim was extremely rude on the phone. She acted like me asking questions was a major inconvenience and had such an attitude. She had no interest in talking to me and I could tell she didn't take me seriously at all. At that point, I lost interest but my fiance was still willing, so I told her I'd text her right back about our availability. I literally texted her about a minute after our phone conversation to let her know we could come in on the day she had available, but got no response. The day before our appointment I texted to confirm our appointment (not my job! Anyone trying to make a sale should do this). She texted back 8 hours later saying we were on. PS. She didn't ask when it was convenient for US. We were working around her schedule. Don't worry, it gets better.

My fiance and I show up after struggling to find the place for a while (could have been cleared up if Kim would have taken a few minutes to be personable and let us know how to find the location). We walk in to the venue, no one is there. We walk all around the building in the rain, trying to call her or stumble upon her. Nothing. She never even returned my call! If this is the type of service she offers to her potential clients, I can't imagine trying to have a wedding there and having ZERO communication.

Thankfully I am not the only one who feels this way! I have heard very bad things about the awful, unprofessional business practices of Kim. Don't just take it from me. The venue seems nice, but I'd never trust one of the biggest days of my life to someone who is so disrespectful, rude, and unprofessional. There are literally hundreds of other venues.

Wait - keep reading! We were also meeting with Laurrapin Catering down the street. We texted our contact to see if we could come early since we were just blown off. Though she (Kelly) was with another client, she texted us within minutes letting us know she was still meeting with her clients, but we could sit in the dining room and wait and she'd see us earlier.

The helpful, friendly staff got us a table, drinks, and menus, without pushing us to order. We met with Kelly and mentioned everything that happened and she completely went out of her way to turn our day around! She had amazing suggestions on food, cutting costs, and other venues! We ended up going to one right after meeting with her (Steppingstone Farm and Museum) and fell in love, ALL thanks to her!! She reassured us that we could still have a wonderful venue and perfect day! She was so funny, real with us, and helpful. All of the food we tried was so delicious! Shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, egg rolls, and crab dip, all outstanding. She completely knew us and suggested everything before we told her what we were interested in, and nailed it. The prices for catering and the restaurant are so unbelievably reasonable we were blown away! We are going to use them somehow, someday, and are already planning to go back to the restaurant.

First, Havre de Grace is the perfect historic small town location for a wedding. Having a wedding and reception venue like La Banque at the Seaplane Base right in town and on the Susquehanna River is just icing on the cake. Our daughter and son-in-law were married there this past Friday evening and we couldn’t have been happier with the venue and staff supporting the event. Kim was there from day one when we first visited the venue, and even provided wedding planner type services by making great recommendations for the wedding party entrance, and even managed the timing of their entrance during the actual wedding. She assisted us throughout the entire process and took much of the stress off of the planning and execution so that we could totally enjoy the event. Kim answered all of our questions and made sure the venue was beautifully prepared with all of the blooming flowers, plants and green space. The venue had plenty of room for our over 200 guests and Kim did everything she could to help us remain comfortable in the 95 degree heat. It is a bonus that La Banque has an ongoing relationship with MacGregor’s just several doors down for catering services.
