Makaʻeō Walking Path is a hidden gem in Kailua-Kona, offering beautiful ocean views and a peaceful atmosphere, especially at sunset. It’s perfect for a leisurely walk or jog, and nearby attractions like the skate park, roller rink, and the beach make it a versatile spot for all kinds of outdoor activities. The beach is also great for a picnic or just relaxing while watching the sunset.
What I love most is the community’s effort in planting a variety of non-native and native species along the path. I’ve even had the chance to taste dragon fruit from some of the plants! There’s a lovely picnic area with tables under the trees on the backside of the loop, but I’d recommend bringing a tablecloth and wipes to make it more comfortable.
A few things to note: some areas are exposed to the sun, so it can get hot, and occasionally, there’s a visible homeless presence, though it’s never been a problem for me. The park could use more maintenance in certain areas, but overall, it’s a wonderful spot to unwind and enjoy nature.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a scenic and relaxing...
Read moreThis magical garden is my happy place and my escape from all that troubles me. It's truly peaceful and almost surreal. Each plot is maintained by a different volunteer from the community so the variety of artistic expression is endless. The succulent garden steals the show. No matter how knowledgeable you are about cacti, you will still see species that will blow your mind! I love the Rotary Club Peace Garden, where you can learn to say, "May peace prevail on earth," in 32 languages. The sculpture of the baby monk seal captures my heart and I am blessed by the Prayer Garden where I often stop to speak with the Lord. The walking path is never crowded, but you will always pass a few friendly souls who smile and say hello. Why not visit the next time you feel stressed or anxious? You will probably leave with a brand new...
Read moreKitschy little garden/park/walking path/exercise area that somehow has it all. Houses many plots of gardens run by various groups with various themes. Lots of art and creativity throughout the gardens. This isn’t anything fancy, but you can tell there’s a lot of love there. We walked around the walking path and found built in exercise equipment in one area, a big stretch of grass on the side opposite the gardens, as well as a TON of cats that live there and are fed by volunteers. Just a fun, quirky area to walk or play or just sit and enjoy. It doesn’t need to be a must-see if you’re on a trip here, but will certainly bring a smile to your face if you have the time to stop by and...
