Old Kona Airport Beach — Attraction in Hawaii

This beach is awesome because it is free and the parking is plentiful. It's great for beach walking. If you do the length of the beach and back, it's exactly a mile. There is a lot of white sand and some good ocean entry for swimming. However, the facilities aren't too great. The restroom is boarded up, so you have to use portable toilets. Although, the showers outside the restroom are still in working order. There are a number of picnic pavilions, but they will all be taken on the weekend when this place fills up. Had a lovely time watching the sun set at this spot. Great strip of beach with ample parking and plenty of space. Watched some surfers and enjoyed our dinner on the sandy beach. Beautiful beach located in the north Kona district. Kinda trippy driving in as you are going down the old runway. Lots of covered picnic tables, outhouses and a fair amount of trees for additional shade. The shore is rocky, so not great for swimming, but there are some sandy pools you can lay in.
