Another Beachy type of place in Kona. Used to be Kona's old airport runway, hence the local name "Old A's." When you drive in be prepared for the uneven or potholed pavement that is not really up kept. To the left side when driving in is the beach. I noticed green trash cans every couple meters apart. I suggest those are probably the better spots to park and walk to the shore. The beach is not too far from where you would park so not too bad. It can be private if you want sometimes but others since more people live in Kona lots of people can be all around you. On the right side as, you drive in is a running track and a skate park. When the running track which is pavement not rubberized did not have much vegetation now there is. There is a little succulent garden to enjoy and some benches to eat on. I forgot to mention the beach is kind of rocky and shallow. There are certain areas where is easy to get in to swim but not a swim friendly place. In the past, when you were an airport, if you thought that an airplane was jumping down here, you would want to walk from the runway. Unfortunately the living situation for locals and low income people, make them gather a lot out there, but rarely I see any trouble.
Fields are 24/7 accessible.
Parks close on sunset, so are the restrooms.
The gym holds lots of COVID tests, and vaccination.
The pool is nice and very taken care of.
AYSO is held on the main soccer field.
Little league baseball is available as well.
The walking path is awesome.
The trails are great .
There’s many people all the time not the most secluded place but you can find your space for sure.
You can spot wales, sharks, and dolphins eventually. Don’t touch the turtles please!
