The open-air QKC is Maui's largest mall with a capacity for about 100 tenants, but I'd guesstimate the list is maybe 50 and hanging on by a thread? It opened in the 1970's and was heavily renovated in the 1990's with the addition of a partial second level, 8-stall food court, 2 parking garages, and a new wing that brought in the area's first multiplex movie theater, and Maui's only JC Penney (though they're long gone now, and the reason why there's two separate Macy's stores.) The 2000's brought only cosmetic upgrades. TODAY: There has been no renovation to the storefronts which look dated and tired, but the mall's canopy roof supports got a fresh coat of paint that actually went the opposite direction of pleasing. They pulled out all of the palm trees and planters and filled them in with ugly gray concrete that doesn't match the mall's interlocking, multi-colored cement block floor. Public areas have new furniture and convenient device charging stations but it also invited homeless campers to loiter and cause trouble. Thankfully the Maui Bus vacated the mall as a main hub, which helped dissipate the questionable clientele. The mall is sad and lacks variety. Old stores seem to move into vacated spaces in order to avoid renovating the store front, which gives the mall a dilapidated look. SECURITY ISSUES: If you need to use the restroom, do not utilize the ones upstairs by the food court or men's Macy's as they've both been associated with a multitude of assaults. Use the restrooms in the businesses if possible. A few years ago, a person was held at gun point and robbed in the parking garage. And, someone's Honda Accord in the parking garage was jacked up and one tire stolen in broad daylight. There is a lack of security cameras in the entire facility, so be wary of your surroundings. BUSINESS HIGHLIGHTS: American Eagle Bath & Body Works Farmer's Market Foodland Macy's Panda Express Victoria's Secret/Pink FOOD COURT: The Queen's Market is an 8-stall food court located at the front of of the mall on the second level, but they're currenlty only half occupied. There are a few outdoor tables and a handful of indoor seats. Views are of the main entry and Kaahumanu Avenue. Its pretty clean overall with no bird problems. Restrooms are nearby. OVERALL: Some may say that Maui doesn't have the population to support restaurants and shops, but I think it's the mall that deprives us by not bringing in the fun and trendy businesses. Think, QKC marketing!? What can't you get on Maui that you have to fly to Oahu and beyond for? Chinese & Japanese cuisine, American chain restaurants, trendy eateries, a wider selection of clothing and accessories, and entertainment like IMAX movie screens and bowling. I won't even compare this place to Ala Moana as they're like night and day, but Ka Makana Alii, west Oahu's newest mall, has the most diverse list of tenants for a medium-scale neighborhood mall. That's what you call genius marketing. Shape up or ship out, QKC! There is talk about converting the mall to a mixed use residential/business complex.

When you stroll through the dilapidated and desolate mall walks of QKC, you can once imagine the glory of a bustling mall serving the less touristy local Maui residents. This isn't your high-end mall but the everyday mall that serves the vernacular. Practical and functional, but still providing a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, this can only be imagined through the vestige. QKC looks to be "closed" if not on its way to shutting down. On a Thursday evening, we ran into perhaps no more than 30~40 individuals. About a third of the stores were closed or shut down. The mall clearly hadn't been maintained and you have birds flying into the canopy on an open air mall so you get this feeling where you are visiting a post apocalyptic mall. If it wasn't for the security guard, we would've felt a bit unsafe with young kids. There was the gaming arcade on the second floor which seemed to be the only bustling spot, brand new, and open with the latest equipment. Frankly, this place shone like the only beacon of hope for the mall. Perhaps it is the first to start turning things around. The food at the food court was decent. And this is where majority of the people hung out. I hope the mall can be resurrected to its past glory again.

It's okay to say the least, not as good as it used to be when I was a kid. Going to Fun Factory meant something special because there were a lot of games you could play with a vast variety whether you wanted tickets, or to beat your friends at tekken. Nowadays companies just copy the ideas of others and they have the same kinds of games and the fun just isnt all there anymore. Dont get me wrong, still a cool place to go for kids and such and even adults but they're losing a lot of their games. A lot of the shops at Queen K mall seem to have no actual value to someone who is coming from the northwest side of the island because everything you can shop for there, is practically closer for people over here so there isnt really anything special.about this mall. For me being a 19 year old consumer of new fashioned clothes, gaming, and a heavy taste in music but not someone to ever step foot into a hot topic.. it has no mass appeal to anybody except for the people who find that the mall is closer than any other place around the island. It used to be a great place to go since they carried older games at gamestop 8 years ago, but now that the company has moved forward into continuing to scam their customers into buying their games and not giving them the money they deserve when they want to trade it in, that appeal is gone. There isnt much point to going to Macy's as far as both men and women are concerned either, a lot of oddly priced clothing but there isnt really anything that would suit someone like myself or anyone in my family. There isnt any electronics store.. I think period besides gamestop I could be wrong but RadioShack went out of business years ago and they havent come up with a suitable replacement to this day. Shopping for clothing is mundane because there isnt really anywhere decent to shop for clothes in my opinion and my family's except for pac sun, which can easily be replaced by a closer location. Dont turn this mall into the cannery mall since that location literally has almost nothing anymore. And all these so called "malls" are losing...

Visiting Maui, Hawaii. I have been riding the Maui Bus. The $25 reduced rate / senior one month pass is a bargain. Been all over Maui in just a few days. The system has 14 routes and does a pretty good job of connecting 75% of the island. Happy to explore so easily. Great for getting to an area to explore by foot. Mahalo Maui Bus!
