We stayed for a week at the Hampton Inn Maui North Shore 6/28-7/5. I’ll make this review a little longer and try to provide as much detail as possible since it’s a newer hotel and doesn’t have a ton of reviews.||This is a brand new hotel that is about 2-3 months old. Everything is in perfect shape and the stay was awesome. I think it’s important to note that this is not a “resort” hotel like the Four Seasons, Waldorf, Ritz, etc. For us the hotel was perfect. Reasonably priced, breakfast included, and allowed us to spend our time exploring the island. If your ideal vacation is getting up early to reserve pool chairs and have a full wait staff and restaurant, then this probably won’t be the place for you. ||Everyone that works at this Hampton was working hard and always helpful. Isaiah and Lynette were very helpful during check in and check out. After a week’s stay I was very happy with how the stay went and how we were treated.||Location:|This hotel is located in Central Maui. This is not a “resort” area per se, but probably where a lot of locals live. Just to give you a perspective on times. It’s about 10 minutes from the airport. It’s about 10 minutes from the beginning of the road to Hana (Budget all day for this drive and exploring). It’s 45 minutes to the summit district of Haleakala. Lahaina and Kapalua were closer to an hour. Wailea was about 25 minutes. Maui Swap meet (think farmers market and souvenirs….recommend for a quick visit on Saturday mornings) was 10 minutes away. We enjoyed the stay and were ok with driving to where we wanted to go. Being closest to road to Hana and Haleakala was a benefit. ||Fees: |Parking Fee is $15 per night. This seemed reasonable for Maui|Resort Fee $25 per day. This included airport shuttle, beach towels, beach chairs, Beach umbrella. The chairs and umbrella were great and we checked them out for the entire week. The beach/pool towels were brand new and washed and ready to go every morning. Really nice to not have to pack all that stuff. ||Food/Dining:|Breakfast - Free breakfast included. If you have been to a Hampton Inn before this breakfast is the same in Maui as it is in East Peoria, IL. This included eggs, meat and potato, fruit, cereals, waffles, Bread, muffins, coffee/juice. The guys that worked there did an excellent job of keeping this well stocked and I never saw anything run out. The only time there was a line was due to a wait for the waffle maker(s). This area can get crowded, so earlier the better. Only thing we were hoping for was some more local fresh fruits on the breakfast bar. Plenty of inside and outside seating.||Bar area: This was not open yet. They were projecting August and I think the hold up was due to getting their liquor license. Area seats about 20 in the bar area, but it’s a wide open air lobby and patio, so room should not be an issue. This is a nice touch because most Hamptons don’t have a bar.||Pool:|A decent sized outdoor pool. Chairs and towels included. Didn’t appear heated, so a little on the cool side, but overall pretty comfortable. Probably just that time of year, but it was pretty windy in afternoons out there. We only used once because we were at beaches/parks other days.||Price:|I think the room rates are in the $300-$400 range, but this fluctuates with dynamic pricing. |I am a Hilton Diamond Member, so we used points. The daily rate is 80,000 points for a 2 queen. They were able to upgrade us from a front of the hotel view to an ocean view because of Diamond, but this isn’t a guarantee. For a 7 night stay we used 1 free room reward plus 1 free night stay award for a points stay of 5 nights or more. So the entire week cost 400,000 points. ||Airport Shuttle:|When landing you’ll need to call hotel after you get your luggage and meet them at the shuttle stop for busses, which I believe is stop #3. It can take them 15-20 minutes to get there. |For returning to the airport the shuttle runs every hour at the top of the hour. So my tip is to book your shuttle the day you check in as long as you know your return flight and when you want to leave. The shuttle is only so large, so I did ours a few days in advance and it worked well. ||Security:|This resort seemed safe and so did area around. They did have a security guard in parking lot at night in a golf cart (I think they shared that with hotel next door). Just a nice layer of security to feel a little better. They also closed up the back door to the open air lobby at 9pm.||Conclusion:|We would stay at this hotel again and I would recommend this hotel to friends and family. You’ll have to drive to do activities, but we were ok with that. We were also ok with this not being a full “resort” hotel. I think this hotel made Maui possible for us because of its reasonable pricing, reasonable rewards pricing, free breakfast...
Read moreThis is a new hotel, and since we’ve stayed at the one in Oahu before, we decided to try this location. Everything looks nice: brand new rooms, bathrooms, etc. It's also less than 10 minutes away from the airport. However, it’s poorly built, and the walls and ceilings are very thin. Starting around 6 a.m., when housekeeping begins, you can hear nonstop thumping outside the door and above on the ceiling. We even had to make a noise complaint in the evening.
The window screen fell off and we had to reattach it ourselves. You can also see chop saw marks on a bathroom shelf. The doors are janky; you have to push and pull to get them open. Several room doors weren’t locking properly as we walked by, and we frequently saw staff trying to fix them. An employee across from our room spent over five minutes opening and slamming the door to repair it, which was extremely disruptive.
The room cleaning service was also extremely slow. We’d be out for three-hour slots, and they still wouldn’t clean our room unless we specifically requested it each time.
Additionally, the disability-access button to open the door on the west side was broken. I was using a mobility scooter, and they told us an outside contractor needed to fix it, so it remained unusable our entire stay of 5 days.
Parking is $15 per day.
The pros: it’s new, looks clean, offers a good breakfast with Chobani yogurt, Frosted Flakes cereal, and buttery, delicious waffles.
I wish I could give this hotel a higher rating. If you stay here, you should request a room on the 4th floor.
I understand that Hampton Inn has a 100% satisfaction guarantee. We booked our stay through Expedia, and I realize there’s probably not much that can be done on your end. It’s not like the walls can suddenly be made thicker. I suppose the disability door button could have been fixed sooner, but overall, I definitely wasn’t 100% satisfied...
Read moreVery nice location next to a small bay in Kahului. We had a nice view of the bay from our room. The reception, house keeping and breakfast staff were all friendly and cordial in speech and mannerisms. In general, the facility appeared new, both in smell and appearance. Amenities like the gym and breakfast are standard Hampton Inn provisions and as always nice features. Several items of note in the negative include entry doors to common areas requiring a “push, then pull” measure to open after scanning the key, a simple process neither explained at check-in nor posted but informed as such after tugging on couple doors and querying the reception. As well, I discovered my room door had not closed completely upon returning from an outing. Apparently, the door was not aligned properly to swing shut completely and latch to engage the locking features. After check in, I reported television/cable outage and a technician came within minutes. He confirmed the malfunction and informed me that he’d contact his supervisor to exchange the cable box. I received no updates that evening. The following day after an outing (just over 24 hours since reporting the television outage) we returned to the room and discovered that the issue was not resolved. After we notified the reception, another technician came and made his assessment. He informed us that the television was “not working,” the same verdict from the day prior. Thereafter, the reception offered us another room. We decided to go without television for the remaining days as repacking and moving itself was an inconvenience. In response to the aforementioned issues, we were informed by the staff that the facility is new and...
