We (my roommate and I) went to.supper at 7:30 PM on a Monday. It was moderately busy but with no wait to be seated. We opted for the buffet to sample various dishes for the best price. At this time it was $15 per adult with $2.50 for a beverage. Pretty reasonable in this day and age.
We went to eat and weren't too concerned about atmosphere. The place is certainly clean and neat and nicely arranged. It does get a bit loud with large groups . Many nice places suffer from sound issues. I'm old and when you have hearing loss, young or old, noise can really decrease your enjoyment.
The selection is extensive and comparable to most buffet restaurants of similar size. On the whole the quality of the food was above average. For example, the General Tso's chicken was seasoned with care, being spicy enough to have a little kick but mild enough to taste all the other spices. It wasn't very crispy but that's typical for the steam table.
The grilled pork sticks were very tasty, tender and easy to eat. Egg rolls were quite good as were the lo mein noodles. Some of the fried shrimp were hard, not crisp. Cold boiled shrimp had no perceivable seasoning so you need sauce. There are a wide variety of sauces.
The sushi selection was pretty minimal but about what is usual for the average buffet, but there was plenty of wasabi and gari to perk it up. I wonder about restaurants that seem to want to ration these condiments.
Mongolian beef was a bit different selection and well seasoned. Green beans, a personal favorite, were tasty indeed. The salt and pepper shrimp was quite pleasant.
The dessert table had a disappointing tray of palmers that were either stale or had just been too long in a humid atmosphere. Cheesecake was the fluffier type rather that the denser New York style I'd prefer but the flavors were good. The little mocha mousse and chocolate cake bites were delicious.
Kids might enjoy "kid friendly" options like pizza and chicken nuggets, but please encourage them to try actual Chinese food. A good way is to have them pick one thing from the more standard American cuisine and one thing from the cuisine of where you eat. They may surprise you.
Service was friendly and prompt. I'd only rather drinks came a bit faster after being seated. Refills were prompt, used plates removed promptly.
I'm stingy with five stars but Hunan Chef is a solid 4.5. It's certainly worth a visit. While you can order from the menu or for take out, the buffet is good value and a lot of fun. We will be back with a new grazing list and several...
Read moreWe were looking for an Asian buffet for lunch and we ended up choosing Hunan chef. We waited a bit before being seated and once we found a table, we headed towards the buffet spread. They have a wide variety of items, in chicken itself they offer: Orange chicken, Kung Pao chicken, Jalapeno chicken, Sesame chicken, teriyaki chicken, and chicken on a stick. We absolutely loved the Jalapeno Chicken and sesame chicken. They also have pork ribs (they were only okay) and steak options. Apart from that, they serve baked salmon, fried fish, fried crab wontons, oysters, mussels etc.
They serve white rice, steamed corn, steamed pork dumplings and fried pork dumplings. The stuffing in the dumplings is good the exterior however had become a bit chewy. I must also mention that their chilli oil is delicious. Along with all of what I mentioned earlier, they also serve different sauces, fresh fruit, a selection of soups, fried potato wedges, french fries, corn patties, fried biscuits, fried chicken, and a few more items. They have a sushi bar too.
In the dessert section, they offer chocolate cake, jelly, custard, a delicious coconut sweet, and fried dough coated with cinnamon sugar. They also offer soft serves in a small cone in the vanilla, chocolate, and Choco vanilla flavor. It is definitely a wonderful item to top off the buffet with.
Although they have a comparatively limited spread, this is a place where you can expect an affordable meal that mostly tasty and is of good quality. The staff is polite and helpful. We enjoyed our time here but, we do feel some improvements need to be made. 4 stars because we liked about 60-70% items on their menu. Among other things, the dumplings were disappointing and the egg rolls/vegetable rolls didn't seem to be fresh, and we also felt that they need to add more items to their...
Read moreThis is the worst Chineese buffet ever. I wanted to to give it less that a star but that wasn’t possible. I have been to many Chineese restaurants in the area. They were all nice and tidy and have good food. Today I decided to try some thing new. Even though the price is too high , I went to this restaurant which I regret it; hoping that the quality of food or the variety might be the compromise. I was surprised that Nothing was different from the other Chineese restaurants except for unreasonable prices. The place was too cramped with tables and chairs that doesn’t give you any privacy. They also have the worst waitresses ever. They leave the dirty plates on the tables till you call them to collect them. Even though you over pay in this place they let you feel just like you not appreciated at all. The waitress and manager never smile to you neither they are friendly. I had a situation where I took my 2 yrs old son to this place. He was just running around all the time that distracted me from eating how ever his mom tried to keep him calm so she have him sitting in her lap and fed him some rice from her plate. Based on that , the manager charged me $4 extra. I asked why. They said that they saw my son eating. I denied that and explained the situation but they insisted on me paying that extra money. This was really terrible and very low customer service. Eventually i was complaining a lot but none on them even offered a word of apology. On my way out I told the manager that this is a very dirty way to do business and promised him to let people know about my experience today. He never care ; instead he was just interested in counting the money I handed to him. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANY ONE. Go invest your money in another place where you enjoy the food and you feel...
