The venue is nice and nostalgic for me, as a kapahulu native, but also former KCC student. Literally right across the street, is KCC (Kapiolani Community College) for anyone that doesn't know, one of the colleges on the island part of the UH system.
I've been passing by this building since middle school, catching the number 3 bus from kaimuki middle school, through K town, and then getting off by the parking lot of the theater (or previously anyways). Now the parking is across the street in the KCC parking lot.
I can't remember what the building looked like before, but this building had been renovated some years ago and is now newer to some extent from that.
The seats are alright. I find myself moving around and adjusting often, but that's probably just me (personally maybe š¤) cause I tend to dress nicer than usual, and sometimes arrive uncomfortable lol in more fitted attire. Whether it be whatever, I don't think it's anything to do with the actual seats. There's enough room for people to pass you comfortably, when they're trying to find their seats š
The area is great enough that you can hear every actors lines, also because of the factor that the actors are also great. My favortie part is listening to the orchestra playing live, which plays in front of the stage, in an area just below the stage, out of view from the audience, but you can see them before or after the play (you presumably watch). Or during intermission.
I recommend planning a head of time in regards to arriving there after dinner maybe? I think that would be appropriate and a 'tradition' I tend to do when watching plays now. Just so my mind is focused on what I'm watching and not thinking of other things, specifically food (after one time of breaking this, and then thinking of food til after I was out... Although they do have snacks and drinks there, but I haven't had any. I also believe you can't eat inside anyways, so only during before or during intermission can you drink anything or eat anything. They also sell beer I thought I saw.
I've seen more than a few plays there now, my most recent being Beauty and the Beast. There was the play version of 'The Birdcage'. There was Charlie and the chocolate factory... Just iconic plays that you'd expect to see anywhere really.
It always feels nice and I do really enjoy watching something live as opposed to a movie I feel.
I'd recommend checking out any plays taking place here, as I've always had a good time because of the venue and atmosphere of the production. They're always professional and the plays are always done well.
I can't confirm where you could buy tickets though, as I've always done this online prior to any date, but through someone else I usually go with. I'm sure it's not difficult to obtain more info about this. You might also be able to buy tickets there maybe? But I wouldn't Chace it, and would look it up...

Wow!!! I have to bring my mother to watch this show. I can guarantee that you will know 95% of the songs in this feature. All classic 1960s music with a very well done narrative of the life of Women in the 60s... through music.
The start of the show felt a bit slow. Ok, I was at the preview, but i think it felt a little rough because the audience didnāt know how to respond. āPulling Teethā is how could better describe it but Artistic Director John Rampage did tell the audience that the performers were ready for the audience to play along.
As the songs started, I was bobbing my head, tapping my feet, and clapping my hands. My first cheer came when āYou Canāt Hurry Loveā came on... still one of my favorite songs ever. My first tear (yes, I will admit that I cry during awesome moments) came on āWill You Still Love Meā as they did it with so much affection. My heart jumped on āWhere The Boys Areā because I know Connie Francis is one of my motherās favorite artists.
My āA-Haā moment came when āAbraham, Martin, & John.ā The whole company on stage with beautiful harmony touching on some of the most significant events in the 60s and the whole history of the U.S.A. At this point I was sold.
Make time the time to get to Diamond Head Theater and watch Beehive. If you do, the final act about Woodstock, which I purposely left out, will let you know that this show is worth the price...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been a fan of live theater for most of my adult life. Luckily Hawaii has many choices and some excellent productions. Currently DHT is running " The Lady with all the Answers". This is an excellent production of a show that's never gotten enough credit. Rampage and his team have mounted a stellar experience. The story of Ann Landers is a multi-layered ,complex piece and is carried by 1 person. This time they got that person right. Landers is played by local actress Lisa Konove. She is perfect for the role and embodies the character of Landers with seemingly little effort. It is a difficult role ,as the show is 90 minutes without an intermission and Ms. Kanove talks/ acts for the entire time. She embodies the surprisingly complex Landers and reveals to us an multi-dimensional woman. She was known as a gossip columnist but was so much more. Fascinating performance. Rampage, his team and Ms. Konove have outdone themselves. Even CoVId concerns are deftly handled with less than 1/2 the seats sold and all socially distant +,masks too are required. Treat yourself. Stay...
