i had a 2hour private lesson with Noa.
When I texted the shop that I had arrived, it was 2:45. (I was told to come by 2:45 to checkin). When I got in the water with him, it was 2:55.
I had a good time in water with him but when it was 4:25 he said time was up and the lesson ended. We I was out of water, it was 4:30 precisely, he was gone.
My wife came up saying why did the lesson finish so early but I didnt have time with me so didnt realise yet.
We went to Noa to ask him if he had mistaken the time, he said finishing half an hour early is normal and 95% of customers would choose to finish after 90 minutes. He said I was ridiculous (Noa said you guys are being ridiculous over ten times) and why we were so sensitive about the time. He also said there were not much waves and there was no point to stay longer in the water.
We first suggested about 30 min lesson credit to come back tomorrow morning before our flight back to Sydney. He said that is ridiculous and we don’t do that kind of staff.
I told him that I wanted to talk to someone in the office then he said okay then i will give you $50 back, but I don’t even get paid $50 for the lesson so what about $20 back? We questioned him now you seem to understand $50 is worth something. This is the point where he got emotional that he started to swear(f word and more).
Although we received $50 back, I was so dumbfounded at his logic that if we enjoyed the time in the water it is not a problem to end early. I mean I paid over $200 usd for this lesson and how can he say it is so trivial matter that we should not talk about? (He also mentioned that why are you guys so sensitive about the time? Didn’t you enjoy the time?)
After a good time in the water we felt really horrible arguing over 5 minutes to someone who thought everything was okay and I was the weird one complaining.
I first reached out the office about the matter to resolve but other than ‘my apologies and Noa is a sweet guy he wouldn’t have done that’ and no further reply.
Our last day in hawaii was ruined being sworn by a young surfing instructor.
I don’t remember writing a review like this but definitely not recommending this place if you want to learn how to surf as a tourist in Hawaii. They do not value what...
Read moreI took a surf lesson as a mother's day gift. I have been living in Hawaii for a few months already and never dared to surf on my own because I still don't know this part of the pacific ocean (and what lives in it). I was able to book the lesson very easily. Just called the school and they picked up right way. They had availability for that same day, but the slots fill up really quickly so I suggest call as far in advance as possible. Our group was comprised of 4 people, varying in ages (I'd guess from mid 30's to early 60's) Our instructor was Makani. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. We received a 15-minute lesson at the school, which is located inside the Marriott Resort, in the heart of Waikiki. Then the instructor drove us to a nearby beach. We only had to bring our towels and bathing suit. They provided water shoes, rash guards, and boards. It was so convenient and safe not having to worry about carrying boards, finding parking, and identifying a good spot to surf if you are not familiar with the area. It was completely stress-free. I felt very safe at the spot were we did the lesson because I could touch the bottom (and I'm only 5'1"). The waves were really sporadic, but that's just mother nature. Still, we were able to get a good share of waves to practice our stands over and over, for two hours. The instructor even brought his GoPro camera and took great pictures of each one of us, which were available for purchase at the end of the class. Amazingly, all of us were able to conquer the stand at least once and I realized that this sport is not as intimidating as I once thought it was. I am very happy with my experience and I highly...
Read moreLocated in the Kaimana Beach Hotel, this surf school was super easy to sign up for! I stopped by at 9 in the morning and was able to sign up my family of 4 for noon lessons that same day! We went out in two groups of 6 and our groups’ instructor was Jake. He was soooo great! He kept his advice simple and really coached everyone well! In our two hours, including instruction, getting everyone set up with water shoes and rash guards, we still got sooo many rides in! The hardest part was just paddling out to the spot and paddling back in. The surfing itself was made so easy peasy, though, because we just lined up in our group of 6 and Jake would push us into the wave. Best way to learn since you don’t overexert yourself just trying to paddle into a wave! Worth every penny!! Jake was so great too, taking time to really talk with each of us and encourage us while waiting for a good wave. He even offered tips and suggestions for good places to eat and see on the island for our vacation! Highly...
