This review is of a stay in August 2022.
Absolutely confusing booking experience. Booked two rooms through their central reservation system whose staff was based on the mainland. Called reservations many times to send a confirmation email for the second room. They said it would arrive with 24 or 36 hours. Never arrived. Called the next week. Never arrived. Called again the next week. Never arrived. Called front desk to help me. Couldn’t help me and told me call the front desk myself Didn’t even transfer me. Called front desk and said they can’t send my confirmation email and that I would have to call reservations.
Repeat calling and going back and forth between reservations and front desk two more times. Add on the fact that I had to tell my “sad story” all over again to every employee who picked up the phone. What made this even more frustrating was that the reservation system and front desk had two different confirmation numbers so neither the reservations department nor the front desk could help me and both shifted their responsibilities by telling me to call the other. Bureaucracy at its finest.
Before travel, reservations assured me that I would have two rooms and I should not worry. However, due to reservations disconnect with the front desk, I had a hunch that I would get the opposite. I was paranoid during my travel and I had to call front desk before getting to the hotel to be on the safe side. My paranoia did not let me down. On the day of arrival, I called front desk ahead and asked if my rooms were ready. However, only one of them was. Had I not called ahead, Park Shore would only have one room for me. Fortunately, front desk found one last room for us but our two rooms were on different floors :( This was understandable because it is not guaranteed that when booking multiple rooms under one reservation, your rooms would be next to each other. Front desk’s excuse was that they thought I had cancelled my reservation. The reservation that I had cancelled before was a different reservation with a different date of arrival; I did not cancel my current reservation. The front desk cancelling the wrong reservation is not an excuse and is very unprofessional to place the blame on the guest.
Overall, the reservations system is stress-inducing and absolutely chaotic. My booking experience from day of booking to day of arrival was filled with stress, anxiety, and paranoia. It was to the point that I understood how their reservation system worked, how different confirmation codes were formatted, and where each department is based. It is completely frustrating when front desk only sees one room reservation while central reservations says they see two. It was like I was being gaslit! Park Shore management needs to fix online reservations by forcing the central reservations system and front desk to work together. Never make a guest be the middleman between your bureaucracy. Didn’t even get an apology from either department during our stay. This is neither the front desk staff’s fault nor the reservations staff’s fault but rather the hotel management’s fault. The people who run this hotel have made the booking and checking in process a nightmare. If you are booking multiple rooms and have to stay at Park Shore, call the front desk to book a reservation and avoid online reservations.
We all know that Hawaii is suffering from over-tourism, and hospitality isn’t exactly happy about it. Some are being overworked and cannot make an effort to make tourists happy especially when they have to serve so many people, so this is just a glimpse of what you can expect, especially with a hotel like Park Shore. As seen from the reviews, some people had great experiences, while some people did not, and unfortunately I am part of the latter. If you want a dream vacation with low chances of encountering stress, don’t dream too big with Park Shore. Do yourself a favor and book a better...
Read moreHonestly, I can only give this hotel 3 stars because the valet workers were friendly this whole trip. I booked a 6 night stay here, largely in part to its proximity from one of the resort hotels where a wedding was being held that I was apart of and I was staying a few extra days post-wedding so I thought it would be nice to be more central to everything else after the wedding.
I checked in late-ish (around 8-9 PM, important) mid week. I do agree with reviews saying that the lobby is beautiful but the rooms left much to be desired. So you could say, my first night there, I didn't really spend it in the room. The next day, I saw two small cockroaches by the microwave when I got back to the room that night--one slipped under before I could kill it and I was able to get the one off the wall to kill...a little annoying but it's also Hawaii and I figured it was one off. Not to mention, since I was in a wedding, I wasn't in the room much (aka eating meals in there). Fast forward to two days later (making it my 4th night out of the 6), I needed some towels and I happened to be like btw do you have any bug spray...tell them the situation because I saw another one, this time on the table and they sprayed around the room and they're like let us know if you see anymore (also important).
Next day, I'm having dinner in the room while just trying to stream the last Eras Tour and I see another one on the wall...so I do what they tell me and go down and tell the person currently working and they're like oh did you mention this before, are you trying to switch rooms, how much longer are you here etc etc..so I just repeated back what I said the other day to whichever worked I had talked to.
It took TEN minutes for someone from housekeeping to come up....not to mention, it was a fast moving one and had migrated from the wall to the carpet, where it blended in!!! and I had to cover it with a cup (while, also thinking that I could have just killed it already). Housekeeping finally came and killed it and sprayed a little more.
Now you may be reading this review and wonder well why didn't you request to switch rooms after the first time..mm okay well unless there was a 1000000% guarantee that I wouldn't encounter cockroaches again.. why risk it. I didn't want to spend my trip moving from room to room. Not to mention, this is my 3rd time in Waikiki and I never encounted roach problems despite it being Hawaii, so maybe the problem was not picking a hotel that I had stayed in previously.
The most they offered me was $100 off parking which yay?, but also leaves much to be desired...
Like other reviews said, the elevators do work kinda slow but it's a good location if you want to go to Waikiki Beach every day. I did have a higher level room so the view of Diamond Head and the beach was nice. The fitness center could use a makeover..pool area was fine. Noise level was okay...maybe bring earplugs if you're sensitive to noise
It is valet parking only...I suggest that if you are bringing a car, to make sure you're going down Kapahulu with the zoo on your left side so that it's easy to turn into the driveway.
They also do not email you a final receipt..so make sure you...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time at Park Shore Hotel Waikiki.
We originally stayed our first week at the Sheraton Waikiki, which was absolutely perfect for us and a delightful stay , but as they were sold out we could not extend our second week’s stay. Available to us last minute and better priced was Park Shore.
The recently renovated lobby had a lovely minimalist modern coastal vibe, and we especially enjoyed sitting on the rocking chairs while waiting for the valet to bring our rental car each day.
The service throughout our stay, check-in, valet, and check-out was seamless! The staff were professional, friendly, and always ready to help!
Some of the highlights were the convenience of having an ABC shop attached to the lobby level, an on-site restaurant, and a Starbucks a few metres around the corner. The location is perfect! It's surrounded by a great selection of stores and restaurants and only about a block from main Waikiki Beach. Plus, it's quieter and less crowded compared to the busier areas near hotels like the Sheraton, Moana Surfrider, or Royal Hawaiian.
Hotel Room: A Mixed Experience!
I’d rate our room (1121) 3 out of 5 stars. While the location and view were fantastic, with a stunning view of Diamond Head at the front door and a perfect balcony view overlooking the beach, there were a few issues.
The room itself looked a bit rundown and wasn’t cleaned well upon our arrival. The balcony floor had cigarette butts, various stains, and sticky rings left by the previous guests drinks, which was disappointing. The bathroom had dust, mildew, and some stray hairs in the sink and shower. I don't usually complain or make cleaning requests, but I asked the front desk to have housekeeping come back and clean the room, especially the balcony. It took a few hours, but once they came, it was much better! The bed was comfortable and we slept very well.
Despite the room’s shortcomings, the Hotel is a good place to stay!
Room: 3/5 Reception Service: 5/5 Valet Service: 5/5 Location: 5/5 Value: 4/5 Complimentary Activities: 5/5
The hotel offers great complimentary activities, including yoga, stargazing, and gear rentals. We loved the stargazing experience! Using a professional telescope, we were able to see a comet, Saturn in detail, star clusters, and stars of various ages/colors. The guide was knowledgeable, approachable, and answered all of our questions!
As a hotel guest, you get access to complimentary stand-up paddleboard and boogie board rentals from a local shop. You can pay for surfing lessons, catamaran rides, turtle snorkeling, and a variety of other water activities. I also liked the fact we had a conveniently located water refill machine and Sunscreen/Cooling gel by the lobby.
Shopping enthusiasts will love this area, as it’s packed with a variety of stores. You don’t really need a rental car if you’re just exploring Waikiki, everything is within walking distance. However, we opted to rented a car through Thrifty to explore Oahu, since we stayed for two weeks and wanted to see as much...
