I spent my birthday week in Oahu and left yesterday and I already miss it! The Beach Waikiki has a perfect location in Waikiki. Its close to the bus line, walking distance to the beach, great food nearby and lots of things to do! The staff was so helpful and friendly. This was my first time as a solo traveler, I booked an all female room and had the best time! You get a key to your room and they also had a locking front door to the lobby with key pad and made it very clear that unregistered guests were not allowed in which made me feel very safe. The rooms were decent sized and had house keeping every day! I had an upper bunk and my mattress was so comfortable! My only complaint is the lack of airflow and slight smell of mildew and bit of mold, its to be expected with the climate there though, nothing a little bleach or vinegar couldn't take care of. The hostel provides a filtered water machine in the lobby to fill up your water bottles, free hot coffee and cold brew each morning, has snorkel gear and beach toys you can check out for the day and surfboards/paddle boards you can rent for a small fee and they even have sunscreen if you forget yours! You can rent a beach or bath towel for $2, so convenient so that you don't have to take up space packing one. This hostel has a roof top for everyone to hang out on, lounge chairs, a kitchen area, jumbo Jenga and they allow you to bring in your outside alcohol. I made friends from other Aloh brand hostels during the tours I signed up for and because they're also considered registered guests they are allowed on the roof top and every single one of them said that the Beach Waikiki was the best hostel in the area! If you want to see a lot of the island take advantage of the partnership they have with Wanderlust tours, you get a discounted rate and you get picked up at the hostel! I am already planning my trip back!

For the price, this a real bang for your buck. Obviously not glamorous, but if you’re a young person looking for cheap stay that’s safe and reliable, this is your best pick. pros: - staff was super friendly and personable, very helpful - free water refill station and a “free” bin where people left their sunscreen and other useful stuff. The scuba gear was supposed to cost money but because the gear was really worn down they let us rent it for free. They also did free nightlife drinking hours and food on the roof on certain days. - the price point! Me and my friend split our room and we ended up only paying like 40 bucks a night each. For the location on Waikīkī next to all the big hotels/nightlife/beach and food places, as well as being an hour bus ride away from the HNL airport, this is an absolute steal. - one of the main bus lines is a 2 minute walk away from the location. Me and my friend got to explore the whole island on 40 bucks a night and the daily bus pass, again, super budget friendly. Cons: - the flip side of the room being so affordable is you do kinda rough it. There was no hot water, only one bathroom for three rooms, and you have to pay for towels to wash your hands or shower with. The room smelled mildewy constantly due to the poor air circulation and old AC unit on the window. - we were in the secondary building across the way from the main one: WiFi didn’t work at all. We were properly connected- the signal was just weak. Im giving 5 stars despite the admittedly shabby room and no wifi amenity because you really can’t complain with that price point. If you’re spending considerable time in your room, I’d say consider a different place, but if you’re a traveler who just comes back to your hotel to sleep and shower then this is the place.

The hostel itself was great. Well run and staff are really friendly. The tours are great too and all the amenities and perks made my stay slot of fun. However, my private room was terrible. I give it 5 stars for the hostel itself and 1 star for the room. I didn't expect much from the room but it was so so bad. I was expecting just a twin bunk bed in small clean room. That's all I wanted because I just wanted privacy for the best price I can find and the picture of the room I saw on their website looked simple but comfortable. However, there were many issues with the room. First of all, I did not get the same room that was shown on their website. I got a room that was smaller, had no windows to the outside, and I had no brick wall as was shown on the website. But that is not a big deal, I get that some proprieties dont have all identical rooms. My issue was with the cleanliness and state of the room. The picture frame on the wall was dusty and the bottom half was broken off and hanging by a single nail, there were boogers and mysterious stains on the wall around the bed (disgusting!), rust and gunk around the plug sockets and light switches, and the curtain above the air-conditioning was extremely worn, mouldy and badly stained all over. There were also lots of debris and dirt in the cracks and corners or the room. The mattress and the sheets were clean which is the most important though I guess. Overall, I enjoyed my stay but I didn't feel comfortable in my room. It felt like I was sleeping in a storage room where they added a bed and converted it to a room

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED This place is the cheapest and highest-rated option to stay in Honolulu. This place have a 4.7/5 rating and I only paid $170+ for 3 nights. The next cheapest options were $250+, but they only had a 3.7 rating. I almost booked too late, but luckily managed to get the last bed available during my stay. This is definitely a great place for the price, so I highly recommend booking early! They offer plenty of beach gear rentals, as well as free coffee and cold/hot water. The rooftop is really nice at night! Overall, the place is clean, considering people come and go from the beach. The bathrooms are cleaned once a day (or more upon request) during lunch when most guests are out. I’m sure the cleaners come in more than once, as there’s always new tissue paper, and I never saw the trash bins full. There are coin-operated washers and dryers available. I stayed in a co-ed room and was lucky to have roommates who respected the 10 PM downtime (the hostel observes quiet hours from 10 PM to 7 AM). The room itself was fine—there was enough space for all the bags. The lockers are small, just enough to fit daypacks, purses, or fanny packs. Each room has a fridge outside and a small space to hang out. Water pressure is great, and the shower's hot and cold water works well. There are three things I wish were improved: The Wi-Fi—it gets really slow at night when everyone is back at the hostel. The bunk bed frames—they’re a bit wobbly, so every small movement shakes the whole frame. A small thing, but I wish there was a mirror in the room. The only mirror is in the bathroom, so you have to wait if someone else is using it. The hostel is very close to all the famous spots in Waikiki. Waikiki Beach is just a 5-minute walk away, and there’s a bus stop just a 2-minute walk from the hostel. The popular moped rental shop is also on the next street, about 2 minutes away. Everything is really close and easy to walk to from here. Also, I met 4 different people working at the welcome desk, and all of them were nice! Lastly, it’s important to set your expectations: this is a shared space. If you’re picky or meticulous, this may not be the place for you. Personally, I usually like my alone time after a long day, so I tend to avoid shared spaces. But as an "avid review reader," I was curious about why this place has better ratings than some 5-star hotels. I’m so glad I checked in and tried it out! For my first-ever shared room experience, this place will be...

Knowing that our flight was landing early morning, we emailed the hostel on a couple of occasions in advance to ask whether there was any possibility of an earlier check in than the usual 2pm. The hostel did not have the decency to respond to any of our emails which was disappointing, especially as we could see the email system open at reception when we arrived (so it’s clear it wasn’t just an unchecked mailbox). While I appreciate that an early check in may not always be possible, the least I would expect from any hostel would be a response to confirm the position either way so that alternative arrangements could be made if necessary. ||||Given the lack of response, we proceeded on the reasonable assumption that we would be allowed check in as soon as the room was free and cleaned which, in most other hostels we’ve stayed in, has been earlier than the stated check in time. ||||When we landed in Hawaii, my partner was very ill. Upon arrival, we informed the guy at the desk of this and asked nicely if there was any chance we could get in to our room as early as possible (acknowledging that the hostel was full and rooms needed to be cleaned). The response was abrupt (and the guy was generally unsympathetic and unhelpful) that the check in was 2pm, no exceptions. We were told to just wait on one of the wooden seats (in 30 degree heat) out the back for when the room was ready. As my partner began to feel even worse (to the point where she needed a doctor) around 11.30 pm (30 mins after check out time) I asked whether there was any possibility that the hostel could ask the cleaning staff to prioritise our room given the circumstances. The response was ‘no’ with zero explanation, which is difficult to understand. The only logical conclusion is that the hostel simply weren’t bothered helping us. We eventually got access to our room just minutes before the 2pm check in time. I would have expected a lot better from a hostel (and particularly this one considering the prices they charge for a very modest room). ||||The room itself isn’t much better than the customer service, small, dark and dingy with an ancient and dusty air con system. Another guest walked into our room during our stay which was also less than ideal. The guest appeared to be checking in - not sure why they weren’t shown to the correct room...
