Supermarket? Well I guess so. Restaurant…for sure!
If you want real authentic Mexican food this is the place. It caters to a Hispanic population and between the race track, service industry, entrepreneurs, construction, and other industries - Hot Springs has drawn a wonderful and rich population of people. Blessed!
And one of those entrepreneurs decided to open Las Americas Restaurant and Supermarket. So glad he did.
Whenever I visit Hot Springs I go there for their fabulous Gorditas and Horchata.
I have never had anything like them anywhere else. Here is my one and only disclaimer- the steak Gorditas is usually a bit gristly, but I believe that is authentic. I usually get two, one steak (cause it’s great) and a Carne Asada. Oh so good! Lite eaters, one is plenty. Two are VERY filling.
When you are served complementary chips and salsa, you get both red and green salsa. Personally I like the red…but it’s great to get two types.
Be aware….this is a no frills eatery. But even that adds to the homemade atmosphere. That and the Latin music beat from videos on the two or three modest TVs. So, skip this if you want white table cloths and shiny silverware.
BUT DON’T SKIP THIS if you want a flavorful and authentic Mexican meal in a modest down home atmosphere. I love it and hope...
Read moreI love Mexican food. I went in and ordered 2 meals go and was treated poorly. I waited a long time to be greeted and was given a very unfriendly vibe. I should have left then, but I was finally seated. I told them I was ordering for takeout asked for a glass of tea and waited for someone to reluctantly take my order. I went into their attached market while I was waiting and purchased a few items. My food finally came, never got the tea so I paid and left. I spent $40 that day and when I got home I only had 1 meal in my bags. I drove all the way back there to get the food and I will never go back. The Chile relleno was mediocre and so we're the enchiladas. Not worth any of the time or aggravation. Especially to be...
Read moreEDIT: This used to be my favorite cheap Mexican place in Hot Springs. Now, they've slapped a couple coats of paint on the inside, taken down all the religious icons, put in a drive-thru window and are charging $3 per street taco, let me say that again, $3 per street taco. The pazole is way different now, too. And, now everything is drenched in cheese dip. It feels a lot less authentic. I know prices for food have gone up, but when you are paying $3 for one street taco and $3 for a Mexican coke, that's nuts. Just sayin'.
The market here is great, but you're really missing out if you don't try the food at the restaurant! It's fantastic. Most of it is authentic Mexican, however you can get...
