McWilliams dog park is bigger than most of the neighborhood dog parks and is located just off of Brays Bayou Greenway, so it is easy to get to by car or foot. The park is surrounded by a high fence. It recently opened and remains unfinished. The water feature, which was advertised on the hermann park website, is still under construction. The back half of the big dog park is lower than the rest of the park. As a result, big puddles of stagnant water form and remain on that half of the park. The stagnant water combined with Houston's clay rich soil results in a swampy area that smells like Galveston's back bay. My dog loves rolling around in the foul-smelling mud. The park doesn't have a washing station, so bring a towel if your dog likes to...
Read moreThis is a very pretty dog park, adjacent to my all time fave people park. However, even though it’s brand new, the park’s water system doesn’t seem well maintained. The parks waterworks for the dogs work well, but most dogs are afraid of it and avoid it at great lengths. The large dogs drinking fountain has minuscule to 0 water pressure so the dogs can’t get a drink. There has been a large mud hole with a cheap ineffective fence around it. Dogs drink (gross) and splash in it , but the wash stations just outside the gate have no water pressure so dog owners have to put foul, muddy dogs in their cars. It’s a pretty park with plenty of seating and shade, but the poor water features and supply lead me to avoid it and not...
Read moreDecent dog park with two sides, one for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs. Parking here can be a little tight. The dog park does seem to close randomly and the Hermann park website should have the latest on openings but I did try and come one time when the website said it was open but it was still closed when I got there. The large dog side has a water feature with a bunch of water jets and sprinklers but the water fountain itself seems out of commission or it just doesn't work well. The park has a hose on the outside to spray your dog down after playing. When it rains the park doesn't tend to drain well so I probably wouldn't recommend coming...
