MoonStruck Drive-In is such a great addition to the Houston area of places to visit!
Back in the day, my friends and I used to go to the Showboat in Hockley. We'd watch double features on the weekends, bring snacks, sit on the bed of our trucks, and hangout.
Now that I've moved closer to the city, we just kind of got lazy to drive out that far. BUT...MoonStruck Drive-In made it's way to the East Downtown. It's definitely fairly new, but a great addition.
My first experience was the yelp elite event showing CoCo. Thanks yelp elite squad for showing us new places to experience. From that first experience, I knew this would be the place to tell friends about. At the time, there was only one big screen.
I decided to come back and support this small business and watch Halloween Kills. The staff are all so friendly!! As of Sunday Oct 24, they added 2 additional big screens for more movies to be watched! So cool to see that they are expanding their variety of showings.
They have a rotation of food trucks that are available for you to purchase food during your movie. Nice to know that they collaborate with local food trucks to add to the experience.
There's also concessions for you to purchase snacks and popcorn.
Clean bathrooms even though it's porta-potties.
This place is dog friendly!
As far as parking goes, you can back in, open the hatch of your car (if you have one), or park forward and watch through your windshield. It doesn't really matter where you park because the screen is so huge that you still get a great view of the movie. Make sure to bring a radio to play the movie, or you can use the radio in your car! Tune into the station that will be playing on the screen.
MoonStruck Drive-In is such an awesome addition to the East Downtown area of Houston. Great night with friends, or even a date night. Oh and come early to see the sunset shining over...

Ok, I am a very easy going person. We are human growing, learning and evolving, but we have to get this together moonstruck. I loooooove the idea really. Like double Features. That is purely amazing... No one is offering that to my knowledge. $33 per car is great also. I love the idea, and the ambience so much I want to have my Bday there. I did my homework and due diligence. I respected all your rules, annnnd I was let down. No outside food or drinks. 👍 But "Who, What ,When or How" was the food at? It was only ONE poor little tink tink truck, that only sold burgers and hot dogs, ok. But HE RAN OUT of burgers! Like whet? 😒 Idk the INs and OUTs of your establishment, but NO. So CONCESSIONS, 🤦🏾♀️ AHT AHT. The prices are NOT matching the vibes of "the cool cup lady house" standards of a concession stand. Have a fridge, but the fridge don't work, cool you still have cold can drinks in the cooler for $4! 😕 Houston Heat and humidity, and Dollar Tree Chocolates do not mix. Again $4 a box.Bruhhh! Like that's not okay. Ughhh. Last straw pre popped Popcorn in brown paper bags just sitting in the popcorn machine, machine look like it ain't popped not 1 kernal since the 50's. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE: The other pre popped Popcorn brown lunch bags sitting outside the machine, like seriously just sitting out. I have such high hopes for the place. I chose Moonstruck over rooftop cinema, because I'm big and I did not want to be hot and sweating, but after I paid $22 for 5 items. Sitting there hungry watching barbie eat imagery food like me, I knew I had messed up. I so want to network with you all. Us antisocial, small circle friends individuals need y'all. Again I don't know how things work, but getting more food trucks...
Read moreFor beginners, the website says food trucks and air conditioned bathrooms available. Didnt see either.
The screen is made up of stacked shipping containers and a screen slapped over them.
The parking is on a medium sized lot and the parking spaces create people literally sitting on top of one another. I was squished in between two other trucks and the patron to my right smoked the entire time. The patron to my left had his radio up loud and unfortunately his stereo was ahead of mine and the guy to my right creating a horrible echo. You also had others who had their engine on during the movie permeating the surrounding areas with gasoline.
Definitely don't bring small children. The porta potty was already full before the movie even started and we were probably the first 30 to arrive. Guess they were not dumped prior to guests arriving. My poor 3yr old baby girl had to use that disgusting thing and we had to literally hover her over the outhouse. The potra pottys are also not lit. Great idea for a dark lot, I had to use the flashlight to see anything.
The greeting parking attendant was nice but where he told us to park wasn't relayed to the actual guy directing the traffic so we pretty much were left to wander the lot and park where we wanted.
We purchased 4 cans of soda, 3 boxes of popcorn, and a box of skittles. Came out to almost $40. We spent over $70 to watch Beetlejuice.. really?
Maybe most Houstonians are impressed with this because they don't know any better, but the Showboat in Hockley blows this place out of the water and is a real drive in. Not a makeshift theatre in the middle of 5th ward pretending to be one.
Id rather go to an air conditioned theatre to spend this kind of money and have clean bathrooms and...
