Wanderstay Boutique Hotel — Hotel in Houston

I booked a room at the Wanderstay Boutique Hotel to celebrate my friend's birthday last weekend. Pros: This is the only hotel to ever call and check on me prior to arrival considering my estimated arrival time was 9:30 AM, but check-in was not available until 2 PM. I loved the decor inside the lobby, the towel warmer was a game changer (after wrapping myself up in that fluffy robe, I need one of these), the sound machine to help me fall asleep, the earplugs to drown out the train horn, the rooms are entered by a code instead of a key and the staff members were kind, especially the young lady who checked me out. Cons: Unfortunately, there are a few reasons why I could not give a 5-star rating. They are small in my eyes, but they are things that can be improved.

1. When pulling up to the hotel, I had to make a lap around the street because the building does not look like any hotel that I have stayed at in the past (pro and a con). It took me a moment to realize I had arrived and the sign was on the top corner of the building. Also, it wasn't immediately obvious where to park.
2. When my group arrived at the entrance, we rang the doorbell to be granted access, but no one was present to respond. It was a little before 3 PM (almost an hour after check-in started) and no one was at the front desk. We were able to enter since my friend had checked in the night before and had the entry-code (safety concern).
3. I like that you are able to fill out a check-in form should you arrive after 8PM or if no one is present at the desk in my case, but the form is a google doc that had several malfunctions. Maybe the website builder can have a check-in form that can be completed and verified on arrival? Or maybe give the guest a call prior to arriving (if that is not part of the process already) and check them in at that time, then verify identity once they are present in the lobby?
4. Lastly, this is more of a suggestion: the room that I stayed in (sports theme) needed some touch ups in the bathroom (paint, crooked light fixture, door on the shower or absorbent rug so the floor does not become slippery and hazardous due to water spray).

Other than those things, I would definitely return to the Wanderstay and really hope they open a few locations in the DFW Metroplex. It would be even better if they opened some apartment complexes with a...

I stayed at this hotel in Houston, Texas for what was supposed to be a special anniversary trip, and unfortunately, it turned into a nightmare. During our stay, my girlfriend’s bag, which was closed, was tampered with by house keeping and she stole money out of the. To make matters worse, we had to dig through the hotel trash ourselves and found the envelope—balled up and empty. The money was completely gone.

We are absolutely shocked and devastated that a housekeeper could commit such a serious violation of trust. The hotel’s response to the situation was disappointing and slow, showing little urgency or concern for the impact this theft had on us. What was meant to be a joyful celebration turned into a stressful and painful experience. The hotel doesn’t have any one on site after 7-8pm so there was no one we could physically talk to. The next morning during checkout I tried to speak with the owner about the situation and she brushed me off. I do believe she allow this type of behavior from her employees. Also I was promised footage of the housekeeper leaving and entering the room and never received it.

I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. If security and honesty are important to you, look elsewhere. This was a terrible experience that ruined our special occasion.

Response to company: I literally just stayed June 6th 2025 through June 9th 2025, I have given your security team my statement and also the evidence of the envelope your employee threw away that she took out the bag that had the money in it. I was no going to send any more information until I seen the video footage that I have yet to receive ( FROM LAST MONTH) like I stated management is terrible as stay elsewhere they will still from you simple! Also the only email you’ve ever sent was asking for the police report you have not reached out since.

To be very clear I was never shown or sent camera footage as I’ve stated multiple times once I would have seen camera footage I would have sent more details doesn’t make sense only time they reached out was to ask me about police report even though I was promised surveillance video...
