Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at NRG Stadium is a massive event with a lot to see and do, but it comes with some challenges.
We arrived around 4:30 p.m. and bought single-day grounds tickets for $21 per person. Parking was a hassle—NRG’s lots were full, so we parked at a nearby CCPH college for $10 and walked over. Later, on the way back, we took an e-rickshaw for $20 (four people), which was worth it after a long day.
We explored the shopping area, livestock exhibits, and The Rabbit Hole (a fun educational section). The Skyline Ride (6 tickets per person, $1.25 per ticket) was the highlight—totally worth the $30 for four people for the best aerial view of the rodeo. Unfortunately, we missed the horse show, as it only happens once a day.
If you’re vegetarian, good luck. There are very few plant-based options, and the rodeo is overwhelmingly about animal breeding, animal care, animal entertainment… and ultimately, eating those same animals. The irony is hard to ignore.
The rodeo is a fun experience with lots to see, but it’s crowded, parking is tricky, and vegetarian food options are nearly nonexistent. If you love rodeos and livestock exhibits, you’ll have a great time. If you’re a vegetarian or expect a variety of food choices, prepare to be...
Read moreI went to the rodeo entrance and bought 2 tickets one in cash and one with card for the Luke Bryan concert. First, I asked for 4 tickets and I was told that there was no tickets available. Then I was told they had found two tickets together I told her ok I'll take them. I told her one cash one cc then she said ohh no!! the tickets have sold.. Then I was told never mind I show 2 tickets but in different sections the concert has sold out so I decided to purchase them like that in different sections when I paid she refused to give a receipt for my cash purchase. Claiming there was no need for a receipt, so I told her I dont want the tickets then she claimed the transaction was done and I had to keep my tickets with no receipt I am afraid she gave me a gift pass and kept my cash. I was very disappointed to later check online and found out there is plenty of seats together and available for $32. When these ladies in the Rodeo charged me $72 each in different sections and refuse to sell me my 4 tickets I originally want. And I didn't even got my cash receipt. It wad very...
Read moreWent to the Houston rodeo a few weekends ago with some friends, and all I have to say is wow! I moved to Texas back in August and had never imagined myself ever going to a rodeo.
The carnival part is massive. There are a ton of rides and lots of food options. We had the big daddy corn dog, colossal fries, fried cheesecake, fried cookie dough, and fried butter. The fried desserts were heavenly! I will say thought that I wouldn’t particularly recommend any alcoholic beverages besides beer. We had margaritas, and they were basically flavored water. In addition to the food, we also went on the Ferris wheel, which was super fun and offered some nice views too!
Watching the actual rodeo was 10/10. The mutton bustin’ was hilarious, and it was super cool to see all of the livestock. We also attended the concert. On the night we went, it was the Chainsmokers. Atmosphere was fantastic! They set off fireworks inside of the stadium, and had some super cool light effects. We all had a super awesome time and can’t wait to go...
