Introduction to Sewing 101 This is a fantastic course for people who are looking to learn the fundamentals about sewing machines and sewing itself. I would recommend this course for people that want to be able to jump right into creating. This class helps guide your through all of the grunt work of learning to work a sewing machine and crucial sewing principles. It gives you good awareness and habits that have made getting into sewing a lot easier for me.
Prior to the class, I had some experience with hand-stitching. This helped with threading and knowing the importance of certain mechanics (sewing over the starting stitch; stitching on the ‘ugly’ side of the fabric, etc.). It is a faster-paced class which gives you a lot of time to review the machine and the skills on your own so you can practice and see where you have trouble and get help in real time. I also brought my own sewing machine and was shown how to do the techniques on both my older model and the new models in the studio.
This course helped ease the learning curve when it comes to learning how to sew. The greatest thing that I don’t think I would not have found elsewhere was knowing how to troubleshoot and problem-solve when it comes to navigating machinery, techniques, and skills that I have never done before. It is difficult for me to use YouTube videos and short 30 minute - 1 hour classes to learn completely new skills. Things that would’ve taken me a year or so to figure out (how to know the bottom needle isn’t positioned correctly, how to know the bottom bobbin is out of thread, how to get the needle unstuck without messing up a stitch, etc.) were addressed and resolved within minutes. With the basics down, I can lookup what I want to do or am having trouble with w/ a lot more ease. This class gave me the toolkit to navigate sewing on my own.
There was a vocabulary sheet, sewing tracing practice sheets, and even a basic sewing kit provided (thread, needles, scissors, pins, etc.). In reviewing what I’ve learned, I have been able to mend t-shirts, hem pants and tops, and I have been more comfortable utilizing/playing around with my sewing machine (the different features like embroidery) because I’m not as discouraged by the missed stitches, ‘jams’, etc. because I know how to start to resolve the issue.

Read moreThe pattern maker continuously stated he was associated with your business and you also stated that he would take good care of my pattern making requests. He stated he works there on certain days and times as well. Not only did he not deliver everything what he did send was not correct or in the format we discussed. Your endorsement of this pattern maker is a poor reflection on your credibility. Telling a client the work will be done by a certain date and then he says “Toju is closed Mondays” is not professional. He apparently believes he’s associated with your office. Also promising clients extra products and services and not delivering is poor business. You were also there when I went over the patterns and discussed the garments at your office and discussed sizing and sample making collaboratively. Please...
