Summer is almost upon us, so it felt like a good time to recap my favorite beach playgrounds in Orange County! All of these beach playgrounds have parking and restrooms close by, but I recommend you use the trolley in the summertime to avoid the headaches of traffic and parking. 🏖️ Marina Park in Newport Beach. This one is waveless, so perfect for littles! They are also hosting an outdoor movie (Disney’s Lightyear) THIS Friday May 19 at 7pm. There will be FREE popcorn, candy, and activities. Make sure to bring a chair and blanket, along with jackets, to make sure you are comfortable! 🏖️ Huntington Beach All Inclusive Playground: Close to the pier, as well as an accessible beach walkway that allows wheel chairs to get better access to the ocean. 🏖️ Aliso Beach Playground: Great playground, but BIG waves! Not the best for swimming. There is a trolley stop here, which makes it convenient if you don’t want to deal with traffic and parking. 🏖️ Main Beach in Laguna Beach: Close to all the shops, art galleries, and Heisler Park. Kids love playing on the “lifeguard tower” in the play structure. Other Beach/ Playground Combinations: 🏖️ Davenport Beach & Booster Park in Huntington Beach: Waveless beach, small and good for littles. You need to walk from the park to the beach, but it is very close. Parking is very limited since it is a residential area. 🏖️ Seabridge Park: Very similar to Booster Park, in the same area of Huntington Beach 🏖️ Balboa Peninsula Park: Down the road from Marina Park. Better if you want waves or to be near the Balboa Fun Zone & Ferry 🏖️ Seal Beach Pier Playground: Haven’t been to this one but I hope to check it off this summer! Are there any other playgrounds I left off? A Family-Friendly Spot with a Not-So-Quiet Twist Davenport Beach—aka Mother’s Beach—is Huntington Harbour’s best-kept semi-secret. It’s the kind of place locals love because it’s mellow, tucked away, and just chaotic enough to keep things interesting. If you’re looking for a family-friendly beach with a splash of suburban absurdity, you’ve found it. Perfect for paddleboarding, kayaking, and letting your toddler wade in without fear of rogue waves. Echo Chamber Vibes: It looks peaceful, but sound bounces off the water and nearby homes like a karaoke night in a canyon. Whispering? Futile. Your kid’s snack request will echo like a dramatic monologue. Local Charm: It’s got that “we’re all in this together” energy—especially when everyone’s sharing one porta potty. It's a quirky little gem. It’s got calm water, a friendly vibe, and just enough weirdness to keep you entertained. Whether you’re launching a kayak, building sandcastles, or yelling across the echo chamber for sunscreen, it’s a great spot for families who like their beach days with a side of personality.

A small sheltered beach of the local residents, as opposed to the oceanfront beaches with more of an influx of visitors on the weekends! Great place to take the kids to the beach to swim, where the water is calmer and shallower than the ocean beach. Kinda cool to see families with children comfortably in canoes, inflatable rafts and on paddle boards! There’s a lifeguard helping to keep everybody safe while in and on the water, along with stepped up security and police patrols of the sand and surrounding land. A portable toilet is on the beach side for visitors, tho a regular restroom is on the port side, for marina members only.

Davenport Beach Park is a very small 0.46 acre park settled near neighborhoods, in the harbor.

🚻 porta-potty Restrooms

🚗🚫 No Parking on the street

💧🚫 No Water Fountain

🗑 trash bins

In terms of a park this spot is significantly lacking in all commodities. No parking area. No playground. What it does offer is a small patch of sand perfect for small kids, but no shade. This spot is perfect for fishing and doesn't appear to need any license although i could not confirm for fact. If you visit this spot anticipate a small, quaint location but perfect for...
