One of my favorite coastal beaches! This is the south end of Sunset Beach, more visitor oriented than the other, more residential segments. This is a clean ocean beach with good surf, lots of sand, good access, restrooms, parking, public transit and local business. The Bolsa Chica Conservancy offers a natural area to hike just across the highway. So the preserve can be an extra nice thing to see, along with going to the beach! There was a high surf advisory when I stopped by, so I had to snap some photos here. It was a bit too choppy for surfers, tho there were swimmers and body-boarders out and about. Luckily there’s plenty of attentive lifeguards in attendance! As the name implies, sunset beach is also a great spot to be at sundown! The turnaround loop at the foot of Warner Av is an end stop of local transit busses and also an access point for paid beach parking. Otherwise free parking is first come, first serve to the north, at N Pacific Av and S Pacific Av. Crowded weekends and holidays may be ideal for the paid parking here, as there’s less of a shuffle finding spaces, as it is with the free lots to the north! Also here, only service dogs are permitted on the beach. Lifeguards will refer all others to the designated Dog Beach, along E Pacific Coast Hwy, south of Seapoint Street.

Had to pay 20$ for parking/entrance at 6:44pm and it closes at 9 which kinda sucked, 4 stars for that because really? Pretty packed when we came also, virtually no fire pits available. The beach was nicely maintained but had a very abrupt sharp end to the water and was different than normal sloped beaches, lots of bathrooms which was nice though. When we came everything was closed store/restaurant wise which was annoying and goes back to the 20$ parking fee for the day and time and everything being closed, others commented it was only 15$? Otherwise was a nice beach and views, wish there was more actual "beach" though. Probly wont ever come back but was a nice experience nonetheless. Buddy had his convertible mustang which made it all much better haha

In the 90s, there was a TV series called Sunset Beach, so when this location happened to be near our recent California stay, we knew paying it a visit was a must. It was a lovely short trip and the first time experiencing the Pacific Ocean and its prodigious waves. We enjoyed seeing the kiteboarders and the windsurfers while we took a walk down the beach. The beach was clean and fairly populated, and we had no problem finding parking.

.....I have lived there since 1992. Back then, until a few years ago SSB was ' unincorporated Orange County'... After much pressure and the analysis of duplicated public services, our town managers agreed to merge with Huntington Beach, next door, south on CA 1 ( Pacific Coast Hwy)....In order to keep our " idenity" our US Post Office remains and our exclusive zip code 90742. Our population is approx 1250, as opposed to Huntington Bch's 250,000+. Sunset is different from Huntington is all the ways a small town ought to be...That also was preserved...In my humble opinion, the finest town on the USA's Pacific Coast ( from. Alaska to the furthest south of Peru. ...And it is Fwy close and 42 miles from DT LA ( in other words- everywhere) ...PS: it is impossible to get lost -:). ...Greetings from SSB, ...Respectfully Yours, ...Daniel Carroll ...PO Box 1558 ...Sunset Beach ,...
