The Huntsville Depot Museum is a nice place to visit. It could use some better upkeep. The grounds are good for a nice little walk, and it backs up to the Veterans Memorial Park. Sadly, I do not recommend this place. It suffers from serious neglect. It is kind of an embarrassing site in the largest city in Alabama with such a strong and huge tax base. There is garbage scattered on the property. I give it a minus one-star rating.
It does not seem like this place was still in operation (shop within the premise was closed). It was an open space (gate was open) and people could roaming around. There are a few trains in display. But other than that, not much to see. The area does not seem well maintained. Nice cool place to check out and spend a little time walking around.
Loved the kid area, they have so many kitchen items. There's a cash register with play money. They have a lot of dress up clothes for boys and girls. Toy's for smaller kids. The had a train and a truck to play in and climb on. We didn't even have time to tour the rest of the place, we spent so much time in the kid room.
We were visiting and saw this driving by and decided to stop. The museum was closed so didn’t get to see the interiors but the kids didn’t care. They got to play with the trains outside. Not a large place but it’s exciting enough for kids that love trains. Plenty of parking.
The interior was closed on the Saturday we were in town. I don't know if it is from covid, not open on weekends, or what... the outside displays are interesting to look at. I would highly recommend visiting the war memorial next door while there.
Hello. They are open for outside visits. Walk around and view the trains... But note that the museum and gift shop are temporarily closed :( contact Earlyworks museum for information.... on renting the Roundhouse for events...
