This is my favorite place to show to people who visit my town from out of town or a different state. Everything in downtown Huntsville is accessible from this point forward. There's paid parking and paid parking decks. If you're lucky, you can find a place to parallel park for free 😂 I see photographers here all the time taking pictures for senior photographs, wedding pictures, etc. Beautiful setting and lots of friendly people everywhere! Events are hosted here quite often as well but I can't name them all by name. Definitely 10/10 and kid friendly. You should absolutely get some food for the fish and ducks as there are a lot of them! Your kids are guaranteed to enjoy it! Mine like the waterfall in particular and the tunnel. The tunnel is my least favorite part with kids because they all like to scream and make echoes 😂 but lots of good musicians will sit there and play guitar and it's nice to watch and listen to. Hotels are nearby as well if you're planning on staying for a while!
Looking to have a picnic? How about a stroll with the family? What about a day of feeding huge fish !? Well I welcome you to Big Spring Park, this place is amazing and has a beautiful view. It has walking trails all along the big pond and sometimes always have awesome event going on to join into. For instance this Christmas was another annual tree walk where different companies decorate beautiful trees with different themes and looks. As well as in Christmas they have ice skating, known as Skating in the Park. With some small vendors and even hot chocolate! In the spring and summer time this place is just as beautiful they have candy machine like dispensers that let you get a handful of food to huge fish they have in the pond trust me you will be amazed when they start eating they also have a few restaurants and bar around the are including the huge arena (VBC) you should make a trip and take the family.
I love, love, love Big Spring Park. It is such a beautiful spot in the city and there is always something interesting going on - even if it's just watching other people enjoy the place. From the tinsel trail to Jazz in The Park or an art installation of giant inflatable rabbits, there’s always a delightful atmosphere. The walking path is very nice and wide and watching the fish and ducks while you stroll is so relaxing. There are plenty of benches and places to buy pellets to feed the fish and birds, which is nice. The fountain is such a beautiful feature to sit and watch, and the colored lights and smaller fountain across the street is beautiful too. There is lots of green space and the museum and restaurant on the same grounds as the park make for a full day of activity. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful spot. It is great for all ages and physical abilities.
Always a nice place to walk with family and pets if you have them. We try to go as often as we can on really nice days whenever the park isn't really crowded for events. It is a beautiful place with lots of koi and other fish in the lake and usually all kinds of birds and Ducks of all sizes. We were very happy to see all the young ducklings happily swimming with their mother and another with her ducklings nearly old enough to go out on their own. There are lots of places to rest as you walk around the park and places that are in the shade near the beautiful fountains as well. Really nice in the evenings when its all lit up too. Only problem is parking at times especially for disabled drivers there are no where near enough spots for them. Hopefully they will take that into consideration with all the new construction going up in the area.
Big Spring is a wonderful spot to take the kids and enjoy a couple hours of feeding the fish, geese, and ducks while getting in some sun (check the forecast before you go to make sure this Alabama weather isn't going to send you a down pour that could have hail in it 😳) I've been going to the park since about 84-85 when my parents first took me but I still remember it lol. I remember the pool where the spring starts the most from way back then. The rock wall seemed like a mountain to me lol. If you visit the park, make sure you go to the eastern end and cross the street following the creek. There are great shade trees over there and it's a beautiful spot to cool off.
Big Spring Park is always a nice place to go with family or friends or out on that first date. The park is always clean. The people are very friendly and the scenery is really beautiful. The city has done a great job with the park. There are bikes And electric scooters that you can rent. The water feature of the park is spectacular to say the least. The variety of wild life that you can see. It varies from day to night time. The ducks, the Koi fish, and at night you can see the bats flying out from under the bridge taking sips of water from the stream below. The park overall is a great place to go and spend time.
