We bring our pup here regularly as long as the weather is good. It is a great dog park. People that come there are pretty good about keeping the place cleaned up and minding their dogs. There are two parts to the park - one for small and one for large dogs. There is also a wash area for you to rinse off your pup if they get too dirty (just bring shampoo and a towel with you).
In both areas you will find seating areas for the owners to enjoy and hang out while puppers play. Usually there are a few tennis balls around in both areas and some times bags for picking up 💩. The folks that tend to the park do an excellent job doing so and as a neighborhood we all seem to respect it.
On the hotter days, you can find some kiddie pools in both areas for the dogs to enjoy until they get busted up. The small dog area has a pretty decent one that some of the frequent owners purchased for that side. Maybe the same will happen on the big dog area too. The big dog side is pretty massive - goes under the freeway a bit and back a ways too.
For the most part, bring a toy if you think your pup might want one (just in case the balls are busted up or gone), a towel to wipe your pup down if needed and a smile --- because most of the people that come there are pretty friendly. If it's your first time and you are not sure how your dog will be, just speak up. Most of the owners will let you know the low down and know to keep things easy with their dogs. But for the most part, the dogs seem to play with ones they like and avoid ones they...
Read moreI really appreciate having a space like the Huntsville Dog Spot to let my dogs run and play, especially with how much room the large dog area has. It’s a great concept, but I do feel like this park could use some serious love and attention.
For starters, the poop bag stations were filled with random Walmart bags. I totally get making do with what you have, but having better quality bags would be so much more helpful. The large dog section itself is mostly gravel, and I personally would love to see more grass for the dogs to play on comfortably.
One of the bigger issues was the cleanliness—there were quite a few spots where owners hadn’t picked up after their dogs, and that made parts of the area hard to enjoy. I also noticed a lot of broken chairs, random plastic, and chewed-up items left around, which made me a bit nervous about my dogs getting into something unsafe.
It would be amazing if they added some nice benches for owners to sit on and just gave the whole area a refresh to make it feel more like an actual park instead of just a fenced-in lot.
Overall, I love the idea of the Dog Spot, but I really hope they invest some time and care into making it cleaner, safer, and more enjoyable for both dogs and...
Read moreNot a fan. Who puts a dog park right next to train tracks? And a frequently used one at that. Every time the train comes by, my dog in addition to others, sprint off because it hurts their ears. It’s already loud for humans, can’t imagine how it is for dogs. Decent seating. Needs to be some sort of supervisor for the park. Can’t stand coming to a park with people whose dogs aren’t under control. “Yea he is aggressive about his ball” or “yea he doesn’t share water” or “yea he humps people”. Completely unacceptable. I’m not euthanizing my dog because some asshat didn’t teach his or her dog to be well mannered and let everything fly. In the past week I have come across four dogs who are aggressive and two of these dogs were over 80lbs. It’s gross negligence for the city to just leave the dogs to their own devices under the assumption that owners are competent. The people with the disciplined dogs suffer at the hands of people who didn’t care enough to raise theirs properly. Won’t be...
