I would give zero stars if I could. As a first time hobby car owner, I bought an rc car from this place and the people seemed to be helpful in their own way. They said that if there were any issues to bring the car back and they would give an exchange or store credit. I spent about $300.00 on the car for my kid and it seemed to work well. Less than 2 weeks later (5 times used) the servo went out on it. I called the store and the manager didn't ask about any warranty or how long I've had the car, he jumped straight to charging me for a defective product. They lied about the 30 day return and store credit and went straight to a charge. He insists that my kid ran the car into things and when I told him that I watch my kid when he used it he says "are you sure?" This is the response you get from someone when they already have made the decision NOT to help you, but instead shove blame in your direction which shows the attitude of the creep who manages the place. He said he will charge me $44.95 for the replacement servo that he calls an "upgrade." I did research on the situation and there are quite a few people who said their servo died anywhere up to 2 weeks. That's not very long to have to repair a $300.00 item. Not sure which "upgrade he was going to overcharge me for, but I found a metal gear water proof replacement for $22.95. And that was for a pack of 4 which made them a little under $6 each!! Now why I would give negative stars... The real kick in the backside is that I went to the site of the rc car I bought from this store and it's available for $169.99. Hobby town WILL RIP YOU OFF!!! Do your research and look online for the things they try to sell you. Everything in that place is overpriced and I'm not talking by a few bucks. They charged me almost DOUBLE what the rc car I bought from them was worth. Remember that it broke after 5 uses in the time span of about 2 weeks. You have been warned.
Edit: If you go here be smart and make a list of what you need, order it online for the correct price, and if need be build it yourself. The servo I got for my kid is STILL working perfectly fine after all this time and we still have 3 on stand by. Half the price of their carbage for 4 parts of superior quality because I looked online, did research, and let negative reviews steer me in the right direction away from bad products.
And to the manager who replied: it was a manager who I spoke to who did the lying in the first place. Could have been you for all I know. And if you're going to "upgrade" your price on items by doubling the price, at least have the decency to upgrade the item itself. A servo shouldn't break that soon from normal use unless it's a servo YOU put in to ensure it'll break so people have to come back so you can rob them some more. I wouldn't give your store a second chance for the simple fact that you couldn't deny that you guys rip people off and you're feeding a line of BS about a servo warranty being "tricky." It's not too tricky for you to cheat people in the first place, right? I give you a bad review to help protect my...
Read moreTook my brand new tamiya Hilux Highlift to hobbytown today to get a few things , cable extensions , look at wheels , tires , servos ect , was immediately greeted by someone and at first it looked like it was going to be a positive experience like the last few times i went in but after i told the guy what i was looking for they started talking down about my rc saying it needed new everything , wheels tires , body , frame , motor , when i asked why they pointed to the toyota logo , i asked what was wrong with toyota cause i like toyota trucks and they just shrugged and said they were just giving me their professional opinion , then they stated that i should have bought a tesla rc car since they are electric as if that was some kind of insult , i mean come on most of the rc's you sell are electric and your going to insult me ? so at this point my blood was boiling i had just come in to get my new rc setup for the weekend , personally i was pretty proud of it i had never spent that kind of money on something for myself before but now that they were talking trash about it , not only did i not buy the parts i drove an hour to purchase i dont even like looking at this thing anymore , i gave this place two stars because my wife and son found things that they like and the guy at the front counter was cool so i figured he was worth another star . it must be nice to have enough customers that you can afford to talk down to people and still keep the doors open , well you lost 5 of em today cause no one in my family will be going in there again ,
Follow up to store owners response , I have to say i expected a more professional response from the store owner , instead i was accused of being the competition and a liar in an attempt to discredit the truth , im not going to lie its a smart way to go to cover your own behind but on the other hand it shows what kind of person he really is and what i was shown is someone that will go out of his way to avoid any and all blame even if it means taking a dump on his customers , i for one will not do business with an individual of...
Read moreFor the want of $10, the store lost hundreds per year from me vowing to never purchase from them again. I was there for their grand opening. I described exactly the type of item I was looking for and what I needed it to do, and made sure they knew that if it didn't work out for my purposes, I had no use for the item and would need to try a different item instead. It goes without saying that their prices make it nearly impossible to risk throwing money at products that don't suit my needs. Regardless, I was never given the impression that I couldn't return it if it didn't work out. When it ends up not working out, and I repackage it exactly as I got it from them, I go to exchange it, and am asked if I had opened it. Stupidly being the honest person that I am, I told them yes. They said they could not accept it as a return or exchange. I even said I would give them my information to give to any other customer who purchased it, and if they had any problems with it, I would give that customer their money back. The most the owner/manager would do (in their FIRST week of business there) would be to give me $10 of the $20 I spent on it. So, in essence, I'd have paid $10 to them, and have NOTHING to show for it. Don't get me wrong, I'd have had no problem with their policy of no returns after opening IF I HAD BEEN MADE AWARE OF IT any time prior or during my purchase. The salesman who rang me up, it was his FIRST day there. Anybody else working there that day, other then the owner, had a week or less on the job. Apparently, after a lengthy discussion with said owner/manager, the only time they might make exceptions is if you're spending upwards of $400-500 there. At a time. I might have been able to drop a couple hundred there per year, but after my opening week's experience with them, NEVER will that branch see another dime from me. This is not a knee-jerk reaction review, this has been TWO YEARS of me being p*d off at how the situation was handled. Truly, this is a BUYER...
