I put a $2000 deposit on over $20,000 of artwork with a 12 month payment plan. The agreement included a clause forfeiting my deposit if payments were not made. After paying almost $13,000 towards the artwork and prior to the end of the 12 month payment period, the gallery informed me that they had returned the artwork to their inventory and that instead of returning my payments less the $2000 deposit, they would return none of the money paid. This was communicated when I called to make the final payment of over $7000. I guess it was lucky that I called instead of just sending the final payment, which they would have probably also kept. I have been purchasing African American art for over 40 years. The action of this gallery is the most unprofessional that I have ever seen. The gallery carries beautiful pieces from very talented artist. But, if you are not ready to purchase their pieces in full (without a payment plan), beware. Subsequent to my experience, I have found that my situation is not unique. I wish I had known before dealing with...
Read moreTi-Rock , a white woman artist for New Orleans is displaying a three dimensional image of Mike Browns Body. Andre Guichard and the artist are praised as courageous for this non artistic lifesized diorama. I hear folks here in Ferguson say this is disrespectful and for this to be about "conversations" and "healing" are horrifically misguided. Is there time for you to reconsider this exhibit? #shutitdown #really Ms Leslie, who remains unnamed as Mike Brown's Mother, is expected to see this? Please take a look at white supremacy is and see if your co-opting of this artistic "opportunity" fits under any semblance of appropriate behavior. I realize the Guichards are Black. #whitesupremacy ensares all of us in a system, a system where it is ok for a white woman to attempt to lead conversations on matters that she cannot possibly speak authentically, think Rachel Dolezol most recently. #erasure and disrespect of the black experience fall under...
Read more*OVER CHARGED DURING A PANDEMIC * This facility charged us $2K to rent this facility for 200 guests. Once COVID hit we asked for a refund & got the run around. So we kept the venue & then were told we could only have 50 guests but they never offered to adjust the price even though they could NOT accommodate our original request. After some serious negotiating they finally took off $500. TODAY I find out that a family friend rented this same facility for $500. This facility has no tables, chairs, kitchen (sink & microwave only) so I'm trying to figure out what this $2K is for? Want to bring your own liquor? THERE'S AN ADDITIONAL FEE! Seems like we got taken advantage in the middle of a pandemic. NOT COOL! WILL NEVER DO...
