Taqueria Varitas — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

My first time visiting this establishment was tonight and I chose to order the steak nachos with guacamole for a small additional fee. I ordered them to go which could have possibly made a difference. I read the reviews and had high anticipation for the experience however I was underwhelmed with my selection for a few reasons. First the price point in comparison with other establishment that I enjoy nachos from was a bit high for the value in my opinion.

To start the container was the small lunch size styrofoam tray, secondly I could barely find or taste the finely minced steak as it was sprinkled on, there was a dab of beans here and there, pico de gallo was fresh and tasty but also sparse, the cheese was not melted or double layered as the menu stated and actually cold in some areas, sour cream was drizzled on enough and the guacamole was decent. I eventually drowned them in the salsa verde in order to help the chips out. I often try nachos where they are offered to see if I can find somewhere that can match or surpass the chain that currently holds the spot in my taste buds and stomach, as they offer a nice large portion with ample amounts of chips,steak, guac, loads of melted white cheese beans and sour cream and pico, but are farther in locations on 59th and 71st and Pulaski, but sadly no runner ups yet.

In all fairness the food smelled great and tasted good, it just left alot to be desired. I may try them out again but I will stick to the recommended items based on the reviews, I truthfully did not see any for the nachos so I took a chance and lost maybe it was an off night or maybe nachos are an offering but not their specialty. . I just ordered from them today and I the owner was so rude to me! She and I mis heard each other when I placed order. I ordered a FISH taco meal, she asked me about what sides i wanted and I also added cheese. When I got home, opened up my food and started to eat it, I thot it tasted a lil weird, so I opened one of tacos and it was SHRIMP!! I called the restaurant back and explained my issue to the owner. ALL she did was offer a weak apology!, argue with me about how she claimed she repeated my order to me!, And that she's never made a mistake like that in 6 years! and nothing else! She claimed she didn't do anything wrong! I was only asking for her to change my order and she refused! I'm NEVER ordering from this place again! It's a shame because their fish tacos were really great! She clearly MIS HEARD me when i said FISH taco meal! The first time!, She should've just changed my order! That's all she had to do! This used to be my favorite place to get tacos. I have patronized this business for many years since before the pandemic. The food has been hit or miss with more misses lately due to food being dry & lack of flavor, but I continued to give them my business despite the prices continuing to going up (though this is everywhere). But lately the customer service has been either great or subpar. This business also has blind/hidden charges. They don't tell you about the charges, it's not on the menu & they're not itemizing them on the receipt. Therefor beware. Then when you ask about it or request that they begin being more transparent about their pricing, the female owner wants to argue with you & tell you they can't tell everyone all of the charges, instead of admitting they're committing fraud & price gouging with some items.
