RE: QUALITY INN of ORANGE PARK, FLORIDA PHYSICAL AND VERBAL ABUSE BY OWNERS & POLICE CALLED!
I am a middle age professional woman. I travel much with my job and I am a Choice Rewards member. 1 of their property chains includes Quality Inns. Upon check in I requested noon check out (which is granted if you are a member and space permits). First of all, the property was in subpar conditions and not up to standards in any way. Ok, so, I can deal with that for 1 night. However, in the morning while attempting to shower and depart, the housekeeper (owner's wife I am near certain) opened our door at 11:03 and immediately became hostile, screeching, and extremely rude. We told her we had a noon check out and she stated (in very broken English since she was Indian) that "no, all check out 11, u get out now, GO, GO NOW".
We tried to call manager, but phone in room didn't work. In meantime, she was arguing with my co- worker/travel companion and things got verbally abusive from her (housekeeper) going ballistic for no reason! Next, as we were quickly packing up the car to depart, this same housekeeper/ owner's wife proceeds to get into huge argument with quests 2 doors down. They had checked in as 2 people, but she saw a 3rd person and was screaming at them that no quests were allowed. They were doing their best to explain he had just pulled up 10 minutes ago and was not staying with them, simply visiting. She went on a rant and that's a whole other story regarding their situation.
Now, as I was loading my things into trunk I had my computer in my hands and it was still open so as not to lose the data I had been working on earlier. She comes back to my door and tells me we must pay another night since it was after 11am. I admit, I did start getting loud and very angry in which I lowered myself to her level somewhat. However, she then proceeded to put her hands on me and push me / shove me towards our car as we were packing and I nearly dropped my laptop! Now I was very angry but I never touched / shoved / pushed her back in any way. I did yell at her and told her DO NOT EVER PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME AGAIN after which more screaming from all parties ensued (including the couple 2 doors down). She then went to office and her husband / owner (both of them refused to give me their names or titles) came to me and said she reported I had "abused" her and he was calling the police for trespassing since it was after 11 a.m..
I also got on my cell phone and called the non emergency police number and informed them that situation was out of hand and I wanted to file counter charges plus the fact she shoved me must be some sort of harassment or assault (I wasn't sure). They said this was a non emergency situation and it would be at least an hour b4 they could send anyone to take the report. I did not have anymore time to waste on their nonsense and left.
I then called Choice Hotels customer service and reported the incident, needless to say, the agent could have cared less. She said they have no control over their properties since they are all individually owned and operated. I was told I would have to wait 3 days to get a response from the owners (lol, right??) and in the meantime, she would not even allow me to speak to a supervisor or anyone who actually cared that this hotel has caused Choice Hotels to permanently lose a loyal customer in addition to my intentions to inform the community at large to steer clear of Choice Hotels, especially Quality Inns. Very sad situation for me overall. I did not deserve this type of abuse and nobody does. The woman was way out of line and the manager backed her up.
I am so angry that I have decided to spend an extra day in the area and go to police station to file a charge. Either civil or criminal or both. I will see what they suggest. I apologize for the long post, but I hope this prevents at least 1 person from enduring a stay at this very dangerous property which is run by highly unstable owners with no one to answer...
Read moreIf you have the means to stay somewhere a little more expensive, do yourself the favor and book it. Walking into the room, there was a strange damp smell mingled with Raid (?). Just an odd smell. The room was damp and everything, including the bedsheets felt wet. Getting cleaned up was gross because, of course, the tub would fill over the tops of your feet while you were standing up taking a shower. Something about that has always creeped me out, considering how much has gone down that hotel's drain and what you are now basically swimming your toes in. We were here for work though, so it would have to do for 2 nights. Note to self: shower FAST. After 2 nights, we ended up extending our stay by an additional night because we were switched to working Midnight to 6 a.m. and would need to sleep the following day, beyond check out time. The credit card and appropriate signatures were already taken care of for the first two nights and on file, so a quick phone call extended us 1 more night. Seemed easy enough, right? Upon returning to finally sleep, at about 7 a.m., I thought I would be proactive and put on the "Do Not Disturb" door hanger. That's a joke. Housekeeping came knocking on the door around 10 and woke us. My partner tried to explain that we were sleeping and staying another day, but figured he'd at least ask for more towels since she had already woken us, only to find that she didn't speak any English and didn't understand the request. So... no new towels, but at least she went away. We went back to sleep only then to have the front desk call. Perhaps they needed confirmation that yes, we meant it when we placed the first call to extend the stay so we could sleep. Either way, they woke us. That was reconfirmed, my partner told them we worked overnight and were sleeping and we fell back to sleep again. Around 1:30 the extremely too loud room phone rang AGAIN. If my heart wasn't working properly at that moment of sleep, the adrenaline shock would have certainly fixed that. They might as well have pulled the fire alarm...The phone is that amazingly loud. My partner answered and repeated that yes, we were staying another night which was already taken care of and that we were STILL SLEEPING after working all night. Did they need him to come right then to sign for another night?! They already had the credit card, the circumstances were explained to them, the room extended and we had already been here 2 nights, but apparently they needed him at that moment. So now, we are awake, working again tonight, and extended for a wet room with bad drainage that smells funny with stinky pillows, where you can't sleep in the daytime hours even after explaining the situation and can't request anything from the maid who woke you because she can't understand a word of English, but you can be brought back from the dead by a phone with an unexpectedly loud volume which the front desk staff is inconsiderate enough to call, not once, but twice, even after having things explained to them already. I'm bleary eyed as I write this, I'm so angry and tired. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 only because we didn't see any bugs. The Raid smell when we first walked in could be behind that and they're all just dead somewhere I can't see right now. Is it really a "selling point" and mentionable when a place doesn't have bugs though? Wouldn't you expect at the very least that there not be bugs? I don't know. I'm too tired to...
Read moreSo, it's 1AM, and I see a small little mosquito-like bug crawling around on the pillow. I jump up, but by the time I come to my senses the bug is gone. I turned on the light (the one by the bathroom, because the one by the door does NOT work. It flickers and then goes out.) and I start to beat my clothes against the wall, because I refuse to take bugs home with me. To make things worse, while I'm BEATING MY CLOTHES AGAINST THE WALL a little roach comes crawling out from the bathroom area (Just want to add that the tub is a yellowish color with stains. I put on flip flops). My friend grabbed a flip flop and crushed it. After that, we saw a small white bug crawling along the ground. And as if THREE BUGS weren't enough, we saw a HUGE ant come out of the folds of a towel. All of this occured in a matter of minutes. Now you might think I'm kidding, but as someone on vacation I don't have time to be writing fake reviews. This is 100% real. While I was writing this review, away from the bathroom by the door, I saw ANOTHER huge ant. The carpet looks as if it hasn't felt a vaccum in months.
The customer service is also trash. We had to wait 2 hours for the people to "clean" the very room that I'm writing a review about. The woman at the desk, who had recently gotten divorced after 16 years, as she told my friend's mom instead of getting us our rooms, was hosting a long line of people instead of checking people in quickly and efficiently. I understand that it takes time, but the amount of time she was taking was worth writing about. And after all that time, we ended up separated in two entirely different wings on different floors, after the lady told us that she didn't know which rooms were joined together, and then refused to call someone and find out.
After my friend and I went up to our room, my friend's mom called and said they had found us rooms near to each other. I had used one hand towel and one of those small bars of soap to wash my hands, so when we walked all the way down the stairs the front desk called to tell us that we had to go BACK to the room because we used one had towel and a small bar of soap. Two small, relatively insignificant things couldn't be replaced (as if it was our fault that the lady didn't know the layout of the hotel and placed us so far away).
And as if bugs and terrible management wasn't enough, everytime we had been away from the room for the day, we would come back and our key cards wouldn't register. So we had to trek all the way back down the stairs to ask the front desk to fix our cards. This happened THREE TIMES in 2 days.
And I hope you don't consider this hotel's exercise room as a part of the deal because a good amount of the equipment is broken.
Worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Never have I had any of these problems at any other hotel (100% true). I come to the "Quality" Inn and all of a sudden I get smacked with every problem a hotel can smack you with. Please please please don't...
