A hellbent customer of Johnson City Family Skate Center has accused the place of being a "D34TH TR4P"; her name being Nicole K. Her comment is slander, and it's my opinion that at the very least, Ms. Nicole owes the owners, managers, and crew at JCFSC an apology. If it were my business that she was spreading such a lie about, I'd take her to court, and let the legal system teach her why you can't go around making such dramatic false remarks against a business without there being consequences in the form of stiff costly penalties. As for the safety (or lack thereof) at this establishment, let's discuss such here after my surprise visit, and I'll give y'all my impartial review.
First off, have y'all noticed that either management or the owner(s) actually reply to comments/reviews here on GoogleMaps? As a business owner myself, trust me, this takes up time that they'd have otherwise set aside to complete some other time consuming task. But beyond that, note what their replies say. It was my experience that these folks are everything that they present themselves to be. Though cautiously rolling from the snack bar area back out to the rink floor, I hit the deck.... hard! Actually, at 270lbs, my body slammed down hard enough to start a tsunami elsewhere on planet earth. Being an old guy, a moment to take inventory of possible damage is necessary. Before I could complete said inventory (pain here and there, but thankfully nothing too serious other than a bruised ego), the rink DJ was one of the first right there checking on my welfare, retrieving my eyeglasses, phone, and hat, and offered a much needed hand up to get back on my quads. Does this sound like the sort of place that doesn't care about your safety?
In my business, I travel the country. Recently for work, I spent nearly seven months in the Atlanta Georgia area, and every chance I'd get, I went rollerskating. It's because of customers like Mz Nicole that most of the roller rinks in the ATL area require skaters sign a waiver to be able to gain entry to their establishments. If it were my place to judge Mz Kincaid (which it isn't; but if it were), I'd say she's likely the kind of person that would order coffee at a fast food drive thru, spill said coffee on herself, and then bring a lawsuit against the restaurant because the coffee was hot. The truth is that emergency rooms worldwide are full of parents who claim they only had their back turned for a minute. But let's focus on facts.
Apparently the rink was somewhat crowded, and as is often the case, there were reckless skaters there that seem to think a roller rink is a place to go fast, regardless if contact with others is the only way such jerks can achieve their need for speed. And I'm guessing that the broken leg incident wasn't the first time such hellions made for a less than pleasant time for Nicole and her daughter; yet rather than advising management, or simply leaving, Mz K chose to stay; almost as if waiting for such an event to happen so she could feel justified by having claimed in her self-righteousness the now deserved right to make said public chastisement of the JCFSC. Traveling the U.S. for a living, I've learned some people are just that way, and not even they know why.
Are there issues here? Yes! But honestly, the only thing that I didn't much care for is the shiny spots on the concrete/cement floor. In all fairness, for all I know, these spots are temporary, soon to be resolved with a smooth, flat, thick layer of urethane or some other acceptable clear coat. But when coming out of the curve closet to the DJ booth, the clear stripe across the floor (likely filling to smooth out a gap where two concrete slabs meet), is in effect a small peak; a sort of mountain ridge. But after a few laps, I was prepared for it.
Is JCFSC a D34TH TR4P? "ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!" Problems with the 3m35s video here, so it'll be posted to FB, IG, & TikTok at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat place!! {{I see some reviews about the whole face diaper situation-if you donāt like that not only have the mandates been lifted here, but also by the CDC AND the studies released by MIT scientists about not only their ineffectiveness but also the actual harm thatās done to healthy lungs, take that up with your representative- not the business that is in FACT following guidelines- they are not even required to temp check but they do. If you believe that masks work-contrary to MIT researchers and the box they come in- you should be protected by wearing yours}} **Now on to the actual business- wonderful atmosphere, takes me back to my school days and Iām so very thankful itās open. All the kids love it, any day of the week, and birthdays there are great. Wonderful staff, clean-surprisingly clean(it had been years since I was back the first time), and we always love the atmosphere-lights, music- wouldnāt change a thing!! (Except maybe having no masks allowedš, I do know a few kids that did not come when it was a mandate because itās hard to play hard with something blocking your airway thatās been proven ineffective) Keep up the awesome work, and please stay open!!! Just bought my own skates because it really is a great way to exercise and get moving. Highly- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! 10 stars if I could. Thank you for being such a wonderful business for kids to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFilthy place and horrible business acumen. They don't care about family fun, just money. Cheryl is rude and unprofessional.
Responding: we have been to your facility before and this has also stated by someone that was there. I did not ādowngradeā your business, I simply stated the facts. Your other reviews even state the location is past due for an upgrade but because you are the only skating rink in town, you donāt care about the people that help keep your doors open as long as they pay. Your website states $5-$8 pp so maybe update your pricing, especially if youāre going to charge more than that at the door. The fact is, you and I did not see eye to eye and because you knew I was not there, you took advantage to be very unprofessional and tell teenage girls to leave without them doing anything wrong. You allowed your lack of professional emotional intelligence to make a decision based on our conversation and attempted to punish ME by refusal of four teenage girls into your business. Very mature for a lady that sounded to be of the age to know better. Way to give back to the community. These are the facts and you know what was said and how you behaved as a ābusinessā owner. If you believe the facts are incorrect and know them to not be true them why are you so defensive? This was about your behavior towards a group of...
