Sun Fresh Market — Attraction in Kansas City

On Tuesday night January 31st, 2023 we were shopping and were waiting to checkout. The only problem there was only 1 cashier who had her sign up closed on register. So we waited to see if the cashier that was suppose to be at her register #7 would come. After waiting a bit I went by register 7 ‘s isle where 2 stock men were working. I asked where’s the store manager? The first man said and turned around he’s here. I told the manager there was no cashier here for us to get checked out. He came by the register to find someone then without finding the person he paged then person the lady came from the fire yon register 9 where we had seen her earlier talking to that cashier as she told us she was closed. She never moved never responded to us to acknowledge us. Nothing!! The store manager Eric told us to go into row 7 but opened up register 6 and started ring up the next customer’s. Not me who called for help to begin with. By the time I got ring up the manager had already run up 5 different customers. The cashier was wearing ear buds in her ears so she couldn’t hear us give our phone number for our points for shopping. It took her 3 different times before she officially had it right. While she was waiting on us she wiped her nose with her hands then decided she need to eat some candy. Opened the candy and started eating it. Right at her register in front of us. Handed me the receipt with the hand she wiped her nose with. We are still in Covid and this was not suitable to me. I waiting after being run up to speak to Eric the manager Eric. I wanted him to be aware of what had just happened. He called up for another manager to come talk to me so I explained to Patrick the situation. I told him I would be calling tomorrow to speak to someone in charge which I did Richard but he didn’t Care he was busy had 3 other phones ringing I was repeating myself he said . Yes I might of done that but he would let me finish telling him what happened. He told me he was busy he would review the tape and to call back on Friday . Really call back ? This is convenient and opened late but the service Sucks!! I should of never gave them my business from the start. Bad Customer Service by Cashier LaTina , Eric the 1st manager & Richard the actual Stiore manager. Will not give them by busy if they think other people are more important and don’t have time to listen to a complaint. How can reviewing the tape make him be aware of the cashiers issues? Is going to think about her wiping her nose with her hand right now during Covid? Eating at the register? Making us customers see her eat as she’s ringing us up? will see how we were treated can he hear our conversations to see how things were handled? No!! Posting under a fake name, but rest assured, what I'm writing is 100% real. This store used to be fantastic to work at. They had a nice mix of part timers and full timers. Everyone got along, customer and management. Around November of 2015 they decided to get rid of part timers, many of whom they never even bothered to tell.

The store manager, Jason, left for a new job and the store quickly went downhill. He did everything that kept that store running. Larry, the owner, has no idea what he is doing with this store. He is too busy building Dairy Queen's up north for one of his daughters to run rather than run the store efficiently. He refuses to allow his stockers to fully order products for the shelves, which makes the store look empty and shelves barren of items.

Jenny, Larry's other daughter, and one of the main store managers has an ego the size of an elephant. Most of the stores problems would be solved if her daddy would stop bailing her out on her DUI's. Nepotism runs rampant in this store. Jenny scalps as much money as she can for herself and her daughter who works in the bakery and accomplishes nothing, leaving nothing to hire skilled workers. The store barely functions with a skeleton crew at all times.

The fresh produce is anything but. Flies are everywhere in the produce cooler and meat department. It was hard to get anything done in the back due to how many flies there are constantly in your work stations. A while back the trash compactor broke down for 4 months and Jenny for some reason didn't pay certain monthly invoices meaning the night staff was left taking the trash out the dock doors manually and it was incredibly unsanitary.

For some reason, Larry refuses to understand that raising your entire store's product price by a flat 10% is not going to help you line your pockets more. He already gets so many kickbacks, he is only hurting his employees at this point.

Please, for the love of all that is sacred to you, do this store a favor and...

I doubt we have enough in common to be friends on any social media platform, if you can't understand how this is a beautiful addition to your regular grocery shopping routine. The produce always includes items that you are unlikely to find elsewhere, and generally of a higher quality if you can find it elsewhere. The department right next to the produce section has a phenomenal array of delicacies from around the world. I doubt you can find some of the goodies in this section anywhere else. I am stunned by their low price, extremely high quality herbs, spices, and delicious items from around the world. There are a few other places where you can find a minimal, irregular, heavily over priced comparative selection of items. I suppose if you want to throw away your grocery money on suburban prices for the delicacies you can. I shop here for the things that make me feel like I'm living well on a pretty tight fixed income. If you can find a better price on the gems in this section know that you have experienced a rare windfall like a lottery win. I've made this a destination for decades. It did change owners about two years ago, but that didn't change the availability of fantastic things like Swiss Chocolate bars, Croatian Teas, delicious chutneys, a very low price on Saffron, and on international food items that you really should try. I was limited to giving only five stars. I really believe they should get 10/5. They really are worth ten out of a possible five stars. If alcohol is something you buy, you really owe it to yourself to check out their selection & prices. The sales are massive. It's not unusual for crowds of very happy people of nearly any imaginable description to be gleefully filling up shopping carts here. If you are on a budget, you should really consider adding this store...
