11/02/18 UPDATE Brookshire Brothers has called me 3 times to give me feedback on what they have been doing to resolve the distilled water issue. They contacted the manufacture and found out that the error was a labeling error. The manufacturer said they have instituted new QA procedures so that cannot happen again. Brookshire Brothers thanked me for bringing the issue to their attention and have now pulled that brand of water off their shelves and are looking for a different distributor. They also gave me a $25 gift certificate to replace my C-Pap water tank that was ruined by the mineral filled water labeled as distilled water. So all is good now. 10/18/26. UPDATE.......... After a week of waiting, I went back in the store today and the supposed FOOD CLUB distilled water is still on the store shelf at Franz road in Katy, TX. It is still being sold as distilled water when the management knows now it is just mineral laced tap water. I am very very disappointed in Brookshire Store management. I can promise you that if you put any of that FOOD CLUB distilled water in your iron or steam cleaner it will totally plug it up after just a few times. In one week it totally ruined our C-Pap water tank. We had to buy a new one. . I wish there was a -5 rating and I would give it to them for CARING ABOUT THE CUSTOMER..... #BuyerBeWare... I purchased FOOD CLUB distilled water at Brookshire Brothers on Franz Road in Katy, TX and it plugged up our C-Pap machine with mineral deposits. So I boiled some of the water in a pan and it left the same mineral deposit in the bottom of the pan (see picture). I took the pan in to the store and showed the store manager. She said she would contact the company and find out what was going on. Today I went back in the store and they are still selling the supposed distilled water. That was very disappointing to me. Why would they keep selling water as distilled water when they know it is not distilled and will ruin someone's appliance???? So be warned. If you buy their distilled water for you iron or steam cleaner be sure to boil some of it dry in a pan fist to make sure they have not sold you tap water full of minerals that will plug up you...
Read moreBrookshire Brothers is the last all-American grocery store to maintain the storied appearance of the past while embracing the ever-changing habits of the American consumer. There are no self-service checkout lanes. There are human beings tied to the communities they serve ready and willing to go beyond the requisite customer/employee relationship. The staff in the deli are just as concerned about fulfilling your order as they are about your well-being.
The interactions between customers in the grocery store are elevated to city council meetings, discussing local affairs with great concern. One day while circling the DVD rack, I overheard two people wondering why the store no longer carried Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman. Both people confronted the manager, and he called three stores before he found ONE copy remaining in Navasota Texas. He told both of them "I will drive out there if I have to, but this is going to turn into a King Solomon scenario." Graciously, and in cavalier fashion, the gentleman conceded his desire to possess this classic television show and yielded the copy to the woman.
On another occasion, the deli was out of fried chicken during the lunch rush. Instead of antagonizing customers with undesirable options, they invited each person to enter the chicken coop behind the store and select a chicken. This unprecedented action did not go unnoticed. Ecstatic patrons ran to the chicken coop behind the store, selected their own beautiful bird, and slaughtered it themselves. To top this measure of communal collaboration, the store comped each patron a fountain drink.
There are too many stories to tell here, so I will end with this nugget of wisdom: Shop locally. It is more than dollars and cents, instant gratification, and baseless consumerism. At Brookshire Brothers,...
