I arrived at PetSmart Kearny at 10:10 for my 10am appointment. My groomer was Jessie. She said my service would be between 3-4hrs. I mentioned that my dog did have some matting, Jessie automatically said I’ll be charged the maximum for the matting. This was before even assessing my dog’s fur. Therefore I was charged a 30min and a 15min dematting fee for a 12lb Shih Tzu/poodle. I returned to PetSmart Kearny at 2:30pm.(Over 4 hours later) I was told by Jessie, who at the time was in taking a new dog, that my dog is not ready because they had many dogs today. She suggested that I go pay and come back in 30mins for my dog. I took the receipt and that is when I noticed the double matting fees. I went back into the salon to question the extra charge on top of my dog not being ready in the 3-4hour window. I said I would like my dog now since she is not being cared for and I’m being overcharged. The other groomers in the salon except for Robyn started defending Jessie saying there were many appointments today. My dog is a twin and is not used to being away from her sister for a long periods of time. Hence why I heard her barking the entire time I was there. Jessie brought the manager who I believe is Natalie. I explained the situation to her and while speaking to her other groomers at the salon were jumping into the conversation. I felt like they were ganging up on me and holding my dog hostage. One groomer went as far to say that she will not argue with me when I wasn’t even speaking to her. I said I will not pay for the service if my dog is not ready by 3pm. She went to the back to speak to Jessie and returned to say that my dog will be worked on now but I would have to step out of the salon. I agreed. Gladis is apparently another manager, when my sister called the store to get the name of the manager on duty, Gladis proceeded to tell my sister whom she did not know was connected to me that she just had to deal with a difficult customer and that’s why she did not want to share the names of the managers. She eventually did because my sister quickly realized that she had to lie to get the names so I can make this complaint. I paid for the full service when Jessie finished my dog at 2:57pm. When I received my dog I asked Natalie for the name of the groomer that continuously jumped into my conversation with her and she refused to disclose the name. My experience today was like no other. I’ve brought both of my dogs there multiple times to be groomed by Robin and I’ve never experienced this extended wait time and I have never been double charged for matting. I feel discriminated against, bullied and this experience definitely caused my dog anxiety.

Went in for some guinea pig treats and noticed the severe animal neglect bordering on abusive conditions of their guinea pigs. 5 male guinea pigs crammed into one enclosure smaller than the Humane Society minimum recommendation for 2. Both food bowls flipped. A hide was flipped and some of them were gnawing and pushing trying to flip it back. Several guinea pigs were also jamming their noses into the hay feed, unable to reach the scant amount of food remaining. They were fighting from lack of space and starvation. I notified 3 different staff 4 times to get the hides and food fixed. Each time the first question asked was “Are you buying one” and when I said they need help with food the staff rolled their eyes and walked away muttering into their radios like I was some naked PETA freak. After 45 minutes of waiting someone finally returned and fixed one food bowl and the flipped hide. He remarked “they do this all the time for attention” and I very politely theorized it was from overcrowding. He began to walk away and I had to stop him again for the hay. He said they were out of hay (???) and I asked him to at least move the remaining hay from the center of the feeder to the edges so they could reach it. He reluctantly opened the box and gave the hay one swipe of his hand and the starving animals all stopped fighting to swarm the hay box. See pictures. Poor creatures. I walked out without my treats. Shame on PetSmart Kearny. Other PetSmarts have done better, so can you.

I had a horrible experience at the PetsSmart in kearny, I paid for a full service for my dog $91 (This includes a grooming/wash with special shampoo & conditioner as well as brushing his teeth.) I usually take him to a different place but his groomer wasn’t available on that day so I decided to take him to pet smart. After I dropped him off it had been 4 hours without any update. I decided to call them since I was getting nervous as it usually does not take that long. They told me he was ready , I picked him up and I noticed he was not bathed at all because he smelled like a dirty dog. An hour later, I noticed he was bleeding a lot on the outside of his left ear. I checked and it looked like he was cut during his hair cut. I called and spoke to the manager, they had me come back for a free service and when I showed my dog to the groomer - she denied what she did. She still does not take responsibility for not bathing my dog and for cutting him. I will never take my dog here again. When I picked him up he was acting strange and not normal at all..

First time I took my dog here and this is what happened. Left Nelson to be groomed by Jude R at 2:30PM, at 4:16PM I missed a call from them and got a voicemail saying that Nelson was at the Union Animal Hospital because they cut his paw while trying to groom him. I immediately try to call back upon hearing that and am not able to reach them, so I go there in person to find out what was going on and a young girl tells me she accidentally cut him underneath his paw while grooming him because he pulled his paw back but not to worry because he wasn't "bleeding profusely or anything" and that they took him to the vet as a precaution. They told us the manager (apparently her name is Grace) would be back with Nelson within half hour, we waited and while doing so I asked for a copy of the incident report or a written statement saying they'd cover the vet costs, some guy there immediately said no and that I could only get a copy of their incident report through their corporate and that they couldn't give me a written statement either, I asked why and he gave no explanation, just kept saying they wouldn't do it and giving me an attitude. The manager never called me directly, another half hour passed with no news. I only got news about Nelson at 6:40PM when the vet called me directly, then at 6:59PM PetSmart called me saying they have Nelson back and I can finally come pick him up. We got there within 10 minutes and there's only a receptionist waiting, the manager didn't bother to show up and tell us what happened at the vet or give any further explanations. I understand that accidents can happen and I am not mad at the girl who accidentally hurt Nelson, she was actually very polite and apologetic and seemed to understand my frustration. But the other guy who spoke with us with an attitude and the manager who never once contacted me directly nor bothered to wait for us were absolutely awful and enraged me, it's unbelievable how unprepared and unprofessional these people are. I'm never setting my foot at a PetSmart again and I will warn others not to come here either. Nelson has had a very rough day and he seems depressed and is very quiet since we got home, which is not...
