Mickey's Dog Park — Attraction in Killeen

Hey everyone, my wife visited this dog park a few days ago. She took our husky,Mia, and boxer, Roxy, there for some fun run around time with some friends. However, after about five minutes a couple with two pitbulls showed up. Mia went running over to greet the other dogs. My wife went as well to say "hey". Unfortunately, it turned tragic as Mia was viciously attacked without warning by the pitbull. Part of Mia's ear was ripped off as she was drug for about 8 feet. The owners also gave no forwarning of the dogs disposition. Given that the signs posted on the entrance to the dog park and the City of Killeen Municipal Code all but forbids aggressive dogs in public, it was safe to assume the dogs were friendly. As horrible as it was that Mia lost part of her ear, it was even worst for me learning that the lady blamed my wife for the attack. She claimed the pitbull was being "protective" and that this had happen to her before. We've filed a complaint with the City of Killeen in hopes that they take more proactive measures in protecting the dog parks from aggressive dogs and negligent dog owners, but please be aware that this incident could happen again. We tried filing a complaint with the Killeen Police department and Animal Control, but since the attack wasn't against a human, they won't...

A lot of problems that occur is mostly because of incompetence people with animals. Rules are posted on a big sign for you to read before you go in. Under 30 to the right side for small dogs and 30 and above big dogs.... people it’s a dog park.... for the DOGS to run and play around not your damn kids so when they get knocked over from other dogs it’s the parents fault for not watching your children inside the dog area. Even states on the rules all children are to be accompanied by an adult. Your pet is to be fixed! Once again people take care of your pet and after it like picking up after it as well cause the honest people who do pick up after their animal don’t want to step in your dogs poop themselves. Only thing I can say besides people’s faults is there are holes in the fence by the small dogs area and I’ve seen a pup try to come into the big dog area to play. Other than people with little dogs just coming into the big dog side. Not my fault your dog gets...

The park was closed down for the month of October supposedly to have repairs done. However when they finally reopened nothing had been done. Nothing new nothing improved! In fact both sides of the park have water dispensers and now neither side works!! I have to say a major disappointment a major let down! This park needs improvement!! First get rid of the mud spots! Second obviously have the water work. Third fix the fence some spots have holes gate doesn't close well. Fourth more places to sit and have shade. Fifth alot of dog owners don't pick up their dogs poop! Which is completely discussing! There are children that walk sit play in the park. Maybe have a maintenance person clean up once a week...
