I found my way to this restaurant based on an article about how good their chitterlings are. For those of you who don't know what chitterlings are, it's pig intestines that when cooked right can make a delicious meal, just dont eat them from anybody who isn't an expert in preparing chitterlings, you will pay the price if they are not cleaned properly. Well they were out of chitterlings so I decided to try some other items off the menu. I tried the BBQ chicken, ribs, brisket, and sausage with side orders of mac and cheese and collard greens. I also tried the lemon cake and banana pudding for dessert. I have to say if you want true BBQ off the grill this may not be the go to place for you. The food was tasty but the meat tasted like it was boiled and not grilled, again it was tasty but for you hard-core grill fanatics, you might be disappointed with the meats. The collards greens were straight out the can, and the mac and cheese looked and tasted like kraft out the box. The lemon cake was dry and the banana pudding was mediocre at best. The inside of the restaurant was nice and clean, and the workers were nice, but my reviews are about the food only, hence the 3 stars. The other piece of the article that caught my eye was that the author of the article stated that this was one of the 5 best soul food restaurants in killeen ....well if you're looking for that stick to ribs soul food that grandma used to cook... keep moving. If you just want a nice meal that's filling and tasty you won't be...
Read moreEasily the WORST BBQ I’ve had in my life. I had the Mac & Cheese, black eyed peas, ribs and sausage. The Mac & Cheese was bland but I added a little salt and pepper and it worked out but everything else? HORRIBLE! I ate part of the sausage and it just tasted weird. Idk if it was the sauce or the sausage itself but it was horrible. The black eyed peas were from a can and were not seasoned at all and the ribs were absolutely TRASH. I literally threw up in the parking lot.
I hate giving bad reviews but this place definitely deserves this one. I’ve never had BBQ this bad in my life....
Read moreI ate here twice in the week I was staying in Killeen and loved it!
First was the BBQ Combo I think it was called with a spare rib, hot link, and some righteous Texas brisket. The meat were meaty and portion generous given the price point. I sided with collards and mac and cheese. Both were top-notch!
Second was the Soul Food box with smoked ham hocks, collards, and potato salad. The hocks were meaty and rich and even now I'm day-dreaming about them. Another excellent box of down home deliciousness and for sure I'll revisit next time...
