Well we just found this place and it turned into our favorite store,, we started our trading some stuff and getting store credit and at that point I thought it was really fair, one load between my wife and me netted around $850 ,,,, fast forward. This week carried another load only to see the other side... we carried better stuff and more of it. We both had a tote full of like new cds from star artists, one of blurays and one of dvds, this time or of the 6 totes the only took the 2 totes of cds for $100 each and have back all the blurays and dvds. None of this was junk. So after talking to an employee it gave me a better since of how this works.. first they will only buy things that they have low inventory of,, unless like us you bring them great stuff and they pay you less than penny's for it,,, and also depending on how many they have on hand seems to dictate how much they will pay so like today you might get a dollar for this movie and tomorrow they will only give you. .15c for it?? Also in my opinion,, the way they do the credit and rejects is bad business,,, first they ask if you want cash or credit then if you want the rejects. Had i known they basically stoled all the cds and none of anything else. I would have just took it all back and they could keep there credit. From now own I'll always ask to see my rejects before making my decision. Another thing that would be fair for people bringing in there stuff is knowing what they are buying on every given day,,, we drive over 1.5 hours just to get there,, had i known they would not take any blurays or dvds that day,, i would have just stayed at home. It should be posted on there web site each day what they are taking,,I know it wasn't just my stuff. I seen allot of people realizing the same thing. I will continue to shop there but I will be more aware in my transactions I know they have to make profits and I'm good with that. But these are not good business practices in my opinion,,, another example of fair,,, if you go find 3 of the same cd they will all be priced to same no matter the condition unless they are just junk. But for them buying your stuff they change the prices they are giving you depending on everything,,condition,,trending,,inventory,,,top sellers,,,etc. People should have some idea of what there own stuff is worth. Thanks for the read. Sorry so long but I would hope McKays reads this and makes some changes. Id love to hear from a employee or former employee that could confirm these...

LOVE THIS PLACE McKay’s in Knoxville is an absolute gem for anyone who loves books, movies, games, or music! As a used media store, it offers an unparalleled treasure trove of items that cater to just about every interest imaginable. Whether you’re a lifelong collector or just looking for something new to explore, this place is a haven.

Incredible Selection: The sheer variety of items is mind-blowing. From classic novels and vintage vinyl to video games and DVDs, there’s always something unique waiting to be discovered. Their book selection alone spans every genre—fiction, history, self-help, and more. I can spend hours browsing and still feel like I haven’t scratched the surface!

Affordable Prices: One of the best things about McKay’s is how affordable everything is. You can find high-quality items for a fraction of the original price, making it perfect for anyone on a budget. Plus, they have a great trade-in system where you can bring in your own media for store credit or cash.

Well-Organized and Clean: Despite the vast inventory, the store is extremely well-organized, which makes finding specific items a breeze. The aisles are clearly labeled, and the staff is always available and eager to help if you’re searching for something in particular.

A Fun Atmosphere: McKay’s has such a welcoming vibe! The mix of people, the sound of flipping pages, and the nostalgic charm of browsing through used media create an experience that’s both relaxing and exciting. It’s not just a store—it’s an adventure.

Friendly Staff: The employees are knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. Whether you’re asking for recommendations or trading in items, they go above and beyond to make your experience enjoyable.

I can’t recommend McKay’s enough. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Knoxville, this is a must-visit destination. You’ll leave with your arms full of amazing finds and your heart...

A destination on it's own. Awesome store. If you've never visited here, plan on spending hours. Two floors packed with used CD's, DVD, games and huge selection of books. The facility is very clean and well maintained. Books and other merchandise is well organized and has dedicated sections for each genre. After you have made your purchase selections, checkout is very easy and efficient. McKay's actually has human employees working the checkout area (no self-checkout lanes here!) McKay's also buys used books, cd's, dvd's and other items. When you take used items to McKay's, you will be offered a store credit or cash. Naturally, the store credit has more value. My partner died in August 2024, leaving behind a collection of 250 cds. After researching the value of used cd's, I realized McKay's would offer the easiest, most efficient process for selling his used cd's. After the review process, McKay's accepted 182 cd's of my 250. However, the cash payout was a mere $60. Had I accepted the store credit, the credit value was $144. Unfortunately, since the cd's are part of an estate sale, I had to take the cash, in order to put cash into estate account. Therefore, please note, if you return used merchandise to McKay's, you will receive more value for your trade when you take a store credit. Regardless, McKay's is a lot of fun! Very pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Expect large crowds, especially weekends. McKay's is very popular and you will have a lot of "company " when you shop. McKay's is family friendly, perfect...

Great selection of Pre-owned Books, DVDs, CDs, vinyl, musical equipment, toys and video games. They also buy stuff but the trade-in value is a joke. You can bring them $500 worth of PlayStation stuff, they'll look up prices on eBay, reject half of it then offer you $75 in store credit or $30 cash. Then have the audacity to ask you if you want your rejects back. They give you a ticket with a number and you have to keep checking the screen to see if the items you're selling are ready (like the DMV) if your number is WHITE you can wait in line, approach the register and get your money, plus "rejects items". If your number turns RED then you took too long and your rejects get thrown in the garbage. Some employees are nice, but for the most part they're rude millennials / gen-z who have no concept of customer service. There is however, an elevator that takes you to the second floor where the CDs/ Albums are. It wraps around the store and you can look down on all the bookshelves, which is kinda cool. If you like those little POP! figures then this is the place to go. Don't sell your video games here. You're better off doing FB marketplace. 3 Stars
