I am one of those people who just enjoy going to the pier! Parking is paid parking, there are a few handicap spots, the parking lot also has some store fronts to share those spots with so it can be difficult to find parking! Once in the Pier building there are restrooms inside, and trinket souvenirs, along with ice cream and cotton candy and drinks, smaller toys for kids or items needed for a beach trip, an arcade and if your feeling lucky or wanting share an experience with your youngins you can get the items you need by renting piles and such to fish off the pier! The pier is 24 hours, as soon as you walk out the building there are benches along the building to sit and watch the waves, for those able you can start an incline up the pier, where you will pass folks walking, taking pictures or pausing to take in the scenery! There are more benches dotted a long to pier, most will have folks fishing, they are often willing to tell of the days catch and the bait they are using, often as you move further down the pier it tends to get a little more congested, Table like structes now erupt from the center of the pier, where the catch of the day are cleaned and the remnants are put down a chute back to the ocean it came from where eager other fish await a free sampling 🦈 I love watching the waters from hi up on the pier, I have seen Baby Dolphin play like any child would in water and I have seen the prey most of us fear and seen the shark take the fisherman's catch off his line, I've seen surfers getting ready to hit the waves, maybe nieve of the prey that swims close to them 🤷 either way I am fascinated by this balancing act if life on land and in 🌊 water, any time I come to Jure or Carolina Beach, I will always stop...

It's sad that I have to report this, but this type of unacceptable behavior needs to be called out.

My family and I were fishing on this pier the other day, when a random guy comes out of nowhere and begins yelling at me and barking orders of "open the cooler!", right behind my seven year old son's head. I'm not exaggerating when I say that he aggressively yelled this at me no less than 7 or 8 times, with no further explanation of who he was or why he was demanding this of me. I don't know who this is so I tell him no, that this is not my cooler and he could also try and use some politeness when addressing someone before screaming at them. My father in law comes over to see what the ruckus is, and the staff guy yells at him as well. He eventually opens the cooler for him after he also tells the guy to calm down. The staff guy storms away to the next cooler, and he didn't say but we gathered that he was in fact pier staff and they may have been checking for alcohol? A simple greeting and explanation would have been nice.

I understand and comply with business policies, procedures and rules. What I do not understand is this business staff's complete lack of basic human manners. You know, the kind we all learned around Kindergarten.

As I skim through reviews, we're far from the only ones with this same complaint about treatment from the staff.

My wife and I have been coming here since we were kids, but will absolutely not be returning to this pier since this seems to be how they treat patrons these...

This is the oldest pier around and it's so much fun to come to. If you are staying in Kure Beach it's probably within walking distance from your accomodations unless you need a ride and then I suggest you get a ride to the public parking down by the pier and be ready to park with your cell phone and credit card handy as you will need them when you approach the parking sign for an hour or two of parking--this is to save yourself the headache of a ticket from the city. Once you make it to the pier you can grab some ice cream, but beware of taking it out on that windy pier, just enjoy it inside and then go out on the pier, trust me on this. Oh yeah, don't forget to shop in the Pier's gift shop, they have the cutest things in there and you're just going to find something you can't leave without. Finally, go out onto the pier and walk that long walk to the end that gently rocks back and forth with tide if you can stand it! See what the big catch of the day has been and see the big Pelicans hoping a fisherman will throw him part of the day's catch for his meal. Then you can navigate your way back towards land watching the people on the beach at dusk play and get their few last hours of fun in for the day. As you go back into the pier house, might I suggest a little air hockey game for you and your family at the arcade? Nothing is more fun than a dose of good hearted familial competition to end your trip...

My husband, son and I visited last week. It's been over 6 years since I had a vacation, and over 12 years since I've seen A beach at all being from the West Coast. The beach alone was phenomenal. Got there at noon and left at 5pm. 4 hour drive didn't want to get home too late. Went for a day trip. Put sunscreen on the kiddo but forgot us lol don't forget the sunscreen!! Life Guards on duty we're attentive as ever. Shelling was phenomenal! If you plan on Shelling full shells go at any LOW TIDE! Search the tide lines. My micro mini shells are fully intact and gorgeous!!! Search local state laws and guidelines. Some are protected!! And the Pier itself? Amazing! Yes. It IS free. IF you want to fish however it is not. Parking is NOT free. But knowing we planned to spend a few hours $20 for a day pass was cheap. Quick and easy pay. Search how to pay before hand and have it ready. We parked NEXT to the Pier and we were walking down the ramp paid for a full 24 hours in less than 5 minutes. Take photos. Lots of them. I know people try to take vacations without phones but don't miss a moment. It's worth it. Thank you Kure for making my year and decade. And my son's 1st time seeing the beach ever!

Best of the Best in the real world of Pier Fishing 🎣 and I am a regular since I learned from my personal experience with my Dad and Brother growing up to be blessed with the most AMAZING AND HUMBLE EXPERIENCE OF BEING A PART OF SALT WATER LIFE and everyone who are apart of the history of the Kure Beach Pier and I am Honored to have had the opportunity to be able to simply just meet the Great People who own and operate the best Pier in my opinion....very nice and beautiful! I also appreciate the Blessing of being a part of the pier fishing 🎣 experience and I am truly thankful for all the Great People who has taken their own time and devotion to the pier and they have a special place in not just my heart ❤ but I truly believe that the Nice Owners and Staff members who are the heartbeats of the privilege to provide a Awesome place and a Awesome place for EVERYONE ELSE TOO!!!!!

Cool facts: this little gem was built in 1923 as is actually the oldest fishing pier on the east coast. This is pretty impressive considering it's survived battering waves and storms for over 100 years. At first I thought I had to fork over $8 to walk on but that fee is only for those looking to fish. But for those looking for a catch, word is that rainbow trout, walleye, and muskie are plentiful. My visit was on a sunny but hot and muggy mid July summer day. But the stiff southern breeze made it bit more bearable. Kure Pier is in the lovely town of Kure Beach. A cozy, laid-back beach village just south the must more touristy and crowded Carolina Beach. Peaceful, serene, and relaxing are what come to describe the vibe here. I would go so far as to say that it felt Caribbean, in a good way. In all, a true gem, one of many that make North Carolina wonderful place.
