I am one of those people who just enjoy going to the pier! Parking is paid parking, there are a few handicap spots, the parking lot also has some store fronts to share those spots with so it can be difficult to find parking! Once in the Pier building there are restrooms inside, and trinket souvenirs, along with ice cream and cotton candy and drinks, smaller toys for kids or items needed for a beach trip, an arcade and if your feeling lucky or wanting share an experience with your youngins you can get the items you need by renting piles and such to fish off the pier! The pier is 24 hours, as soon as you walk out the building there are benches along the building to sit and watch the waves, for those able you can start an incline up the pier, where you will pass folks walking, taking pictures or pausing to take in the scenery! There are more benches dotted a long to pier, most will have folks fishing, they are often willing to tell of the days catch and the bait they are using, often as you move further down the pier it tends to get a little more congested, Table like structes now erupt from the center of the pier, where the catch of the day are cleaned and the remnants are put down a chute back to the ocean it came from where eager other fish await a free sampling 🦈 I love watching the waters from hi up on the pier, I have seen Baby Dolphin play like any child would in water and I have seen the prey most of us fear and seen the shark take the fisherman's catch off his line, I've seen surfers getting ready to hit the waves, maybe nieve of the prey that swims close to them 🤷 either way I am fascinated by this balancing act if life on land and in 🌊 water, any time I come to Jure or Carolina Beach, I will always stop...
Read moreIt's sad that I have to report this, but this type of unacceptable behavior needs to be called out.
My family and I were fishing on this pier the other day, when a random guy comes out of nowhere and begins yelling at me and barking orders of "open the cooler!", right behind my seven year old son's head. I'm not exaggerating when I say that he aggressively yelled this at me no less than 7 or 8 times, with no further explanation of who he was or why he was demanding this of me. I don't know who this is so I tell him no, that this is not my cooler and he could also try and use some politeness when addressing someone before screaming at them. My father in law comes over to see what the ruckus is, and the staff guy yells at him as well. He eventually opens the cooler for him after he also tells the guy to calm down. The staff guy storms away to the next cooler, and he didn't say but we gathered that he was in fact pier staff and they may have been checking for alcohol? A simple greeting and explanation would have been nice.
I understand and comply with business policies, procedures and rules. What I do not understand is this business staff's complete lack of basic human manners. You know, the kind we all learned around Kindergarten.
As I skim through reviews, we're far from the only ones with this same complaint about treatment from the staff.
My wife and I have been coming here since we were kids, but will absolutely not be returning to this pier since this seems to be how they treat patrons these...
Read moreThis is the oldest pier around and it's so much fun to come to. If you are staying in Kure Beach it's probably within walking distance from your accomodations unless you need a ride and then I suggest you get a ride to the public parking down by the pier and be ready to park with your cell phone and credit card handy as you will need them when you approach the parking sign for an hour or two of parking--this is to save yourself the headache of a ticket from the city. Once you make it to the pier you can grab some ice cream, but beware of taking it out on that windy pier, just enjoy it inside and then go out on the pier, trust me on this. Oh yeah, don't forget to shop in the Pier's gift shop, they have the cutest things in there and you're just going to find something you can't leave without. Finally, go out onto the pier and walk that long walk to the end that gently rocks back and forth with tide if you can stand it! See what the big catch of the day has been and see the big Pelicans hoping a fisherman will throw him part of the day's catch for his meal. Then you can navigate your way back towards land watching the people on the beach at dusk play and get their few last hours of fun in for the day. As you go back into the pier house, might I suggest a little air hockey game for you and your family at the arcade? Nothing is more fun than a dose of good hearted familial competition to end your trip...
