I received services from the Board Store Home Impovements for a bathroom remodel, which included an all new shower, floors and fixtures for my turn-of-the century 1 bathroom home. This was my first experience hiring an all-in-one contractor to remodel an entire room. Anna, the designer and salesperson was very knowledgeable, friendly and patient as we worked through the ins and outs of all the details and material selections. Anna listened to my ideas and found the right products that suited my tastes and desires for a new bathroom.
Upon beginning of the work, Joe, the foreman/person in charge, was very friendly and accommodating. Things were off to a fine start on a Monday. A day or two in, I learned that Joe would be gone on vacation and that other people would be moving forward with tilework and/or the shower. Before the project started, I had been told I would be without a shower for approximately 5 days (I was expecting the bulk of the project to run Mon. - Fri.). The people filling in for Joe came on a Friday to do work, and by the end of that day, the project was largely unfinished (things run behind schedule, I understand). Come the following Monday, nobody showed up and that was not communicated to me. Joe was still on vacation and I still didn't have a functional shower. I called on Tuesday after nobody showed up again, and I was told Joe would be returning the following Monday- 2 weeks after the project started and still without a functional shower. Upon Joe's return, the project wrapped up within a few days. After it was done, the grouting in the tile did not look like what I had ordered (azure blue) and I noticed a suspicious blue stain on my boulevard sidewalk next to where the truck had been parked. My new grout is grey, not blue at all. Joe and his helper gracefully power washed the sidewalk stain, completed some finishing touches, then the project was over.
Overall, the quality of work and materials were quite good, except for the communication issues/vacation timing as well as the grout malfunction. I would have rather waited for the project to begin when nobody had a planned vacation, so the right people could do the project correctly from start to finish. Anna and Joe are very talented and kind people, but I will think twice when considering Board Store for my eventual...
Read moreI ordered three fairly large Sunrise triple pane horizontal sliding replacement windows for my house. These are vinyl Windows, and they have very low air leakage rates. The ones I ordered have a white exterior and an oak interior. They look great both inside and out! The Windows themselves are great! They really reduce the road noise which is important as I live on a busy street. The interior glass remains at a constant temperature as my house irregardless of the temperature, and that helps prevent drafts in addition to lowering my utility bills. I had no problems with condensation this past winter which destroyed the wood framed Windows I replaced.
As for the Board Store, all employees I dealt with were great! My salesman was knowledgable and willing to work with me. The installers were courteous and did a great job installing my Windows. All of the windows were insulated, exteriors wrapped in aluminum, and caulked perfectly. My new Windows are pretty much completely maintenance free aside from cleaning. Even though this was not the lowest bid on my particular project, I am impressed that I got a quality product (as long as I own the house warranty) and a ten year warranty on the labor. I hope I never need either of those, but it is peace of mind to know I have it. I like my Windows so much that I just ordered seven more double hung units with a matching build.
I apologize that most of the time the word Windows is capitalized. My iPad likes to autocorrect that word all the...
Read moreThe team at the Board Store recently renovated our downstairs bathroom to make it accessible for our child who uses a wheelchair, and they created a little bedroom for him next to it. This was a fairly complicated, month-long job that involved completely demolishing the old bathroom and running new pipe, electrical, and HVAC...basically coordinating a team of almost a dozen people. They project managed the whole thing at an extremely reasonable price. Marge is very knowledgeable about handicap accessible options -- she's actually certified -- and came up with a thoughtful floor plan and lots of clever pieces of equipment that will help our son to "do it himself" -- showering, washing hands, etc. The owner, Miles, actually drove up to Winona from La Crosse a few times to spec out the project in person (he has two sons in wheelchairs, so he was very knowledgeable about what needed to happen). The main carpenter on the job, Rustin, was very friendly and professional, and managed to solve some tricky old-house problems on the fly -- for example, the floor was not level, but he came up with a solution. Very good problem-solving by everyone on the team on a number of things that cropped up. Bottom line, they went above and beyond to deliver a superior experience and end product, and we will be going back to them for our next...
