I reviewed this gym back in 2014 when they were at a smaller location and in their first year as NXPT. I was a regular member until 2016, had two babies, and just returned this year (2020). They have been busy! They moved their original gym to large facility off Murphy Canyon Road, added a second location in La Mesa, and they just bought a yoga/spin facility near the La Mesa gym. Additionally they offer consultation for new gym facilities and training for corporate offices.
The most impressive thing to me, however, has been their resilience in the face of major challenges during COVID-19. During the first major shutdown in March/April, they updated the windows of the La Mesa gym to bay doors. BAM, air flow. They also added outdoor stations with tents and formed a partnership at the Dana on Mission Bay for outdoors yoga and boot camp classes 3 times a week.
I am a regular at the La Mesa gym evening classes Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays where I get to be trained by a literal American Ninja Warrior/Mama Bear (Paige) who always encourages me to listen to my body and recover and the most motivating/fierce trainer, Mariana, who constantly pushes my perceived boundaries - lift heavier, better form, more power. On Tuesdays/Thursday I'm trained by Sam N. who with her positive energy activates my competitive drive to move faster with little to no downtime. Then we have the Sam W. and Danna, their yoga instructors. Sam W. always has a new inversion to help keep my yoga practice challenging and engaging and Danna brings the spiritual aspect to help cleanse my heart and mind at the start of every weekend. Lastly, the owners, Dan and Hannibal, now more like old friends after the last 6 years, have only strengthened and reinforced in their trainers the welcoming and loving culture. Sure they've known me for a long time, but I see them treat new members with the same attention and kindness. At NXPT, you will not only get in the best shape of your life, but you will also be valued.
Bottom line - TRY IT OUT. $10 for 10 days or 6 weeks for $99. The workout will take care of itself, you just...
Read moreI had a negative experience here during my trail week which led to me not joining.
My first class I waited near the entrance for about 20 minutes for someone to guide me towards what would happen (how to check in, where to put my water, what to expect in class, etc), and no one helped me or paid any attention to me. It was a terrible experience. Despite my fears, I joined in when the workout began since I knew I had paid for the trial week and so I should at least try the workout. The workout was okay, but the whole time I felt so awkward and uncomfortable because I didn't even check in for the class, and the trainer looked past me as if I didn't even exist.
I returned for a couple of classes during the trial week, however I had a similar experience of the trainers/teachers not showing me around or teaching me how to check in for class or ever become comfortable in how to become a member of their fitness community. To me it seemed that it's already formed and they really aren't looking...
Read moreI absolutely love this gym!! I come here for hot yoga and have also tried the spin classes. Each Hot Yoga class has a positive message along with a nice workout. Sheena’s Hatha Flow is very relaxing and great for anyone new to Yoga. She’s very welcoming and focuses on harmony between the mind and body. Sheena does the poses with you, reminds you to breathe, and encourages you to take time for yourself. Dafna’s Hot Yoga Fushion is a great workout that’s all about balance. Her talks are motivating and she gives you detail instruction on how to do the pose properly. It’s an amazing work out and I have lost inches and toned up in just a few months. Coming here for Hot Yoga has increased my energy levels, corrected my pain, and cured my migraines. It is a life changer!
I love that NXPT uses an app to book your classes and manage your gym membership. They also have a sauna in the locker room. 10/10 I...
