Geneva Lake Distilling + Winery — Attraction in Lake Geneva

My wife and I traveled up here to this wonderful establishment on our way to our vacation destination Monday, August 12th.

I'll have to say that it's been one of the best wineries that I have ever encountered.

A husband and wife own this fine business. From what I gather from their awesome employees, the wife takes care of all the artwork on all of their wine and spirit bottles as well as the artwork that adores their winery establishment and I believe they told me the artwork is for sale as well.

My wife and I were treated very well by the employees running the wine tasting. They were very helpful in describing each wine, how it tasted, and what its flavors are.

My wife and I had five different tastings of different wines. I had the sweet sweet she had to dry which were all very very good! I highly recommend doing a tasting!! We purchased two bottles to take home.

They also make a very good old fashioned! After the wine tasting we hung out for a while. Walking and looking around they have a functioning recording studio, which I found to be very interesting and amazing since I am a musician as well.

We went outside and checked out all the grapes that they had growing on the property and the lovely views with music playing in the background. Very enjoyable.

My bf and i came up to lake geneva for my birthday, and then we had a storm that took the power out for more than 30 hours. we almost went home, but we talked about a wine tasting so i went to the website, and my phone reception was really bad from the storm so it wouldnt load. i called and spoke to doug, who was very kind about it and took down my reservation even though they normally only take reservations thru the site, AND he wasnt there, later learning he was on vacation! We got there and Will guided us thru our tasting, was very knowledgeable and friendly, and we were chatting with both him and Austen for a bit, where they so kindly let us stay a bit late to charge our phones because we told them we havent had power at home for the last 24 hours! The atmosphere and staff were outstanding and I would highly recommend this place for a drink.

However, the wine was perhaps one of the most unpleasant tasting experiences I’ve encountered. It’s surprising that there’s positive reviews on the wine that is served here. Perhaps our party came at a bad time where the batches of wine were tainted in some capacity. The tasting came with 2 bottles each to take home. After seeing discoloration on the cork and smelling the same chemical and skunked aroma that I experienced earlier. It’s clear that these bottles were better suited for the trash can.

I really do appreciate the ambition of small batch production and a locally owned establishment, but can’t hold back on leaving honest feedback. If you enjoy a 1.5ml bottle of barefoot mascato then this is the place for you. Otherwise, I hope your experience is...
