I've been a customer of Lake Geneva Antique Mall for over 15 years. My shopping experience there had always been pleasant, as the staff would always leave the customer alone to browse and take their time shopping.
I went there again this past Wednesday. I wore my Covid mask in the store as I have done at that establishment for the past 3 years when I visited. This time things were different. As I walked in the door, I greeted the two women at the front counter with a nice "hi". One of them ignored me, and the other said "hi" back rather coldly and quietly. As I walked into the first aisle, a shorter older women approached me directly from a booth further in the store. She stood right in front of me and said "masks are not allowed in the store". I told her that I've been shopping there for years, and even offered to remove my mask momentarily so she could see my face. She said "no, masks are not allowed in the store". She then said that it would be best for me to do my antique shopping elsewhere if I didn't remove my mask.
As I was leaving and walked past the front counter, both women there would not look me in the eyes. They were both gazing down, and one was shaking her head.
An explanation for this behavior would have been nice, but none was given. The older, shorter woman (who I'm guessing was the owner) was abruptly rude. It also seems like the staff is a bit timid around her.
I can only guess why they now have a rudely enforced no mask policy. Maybe they experienced retail theft, and this is part of their solution? Maybe they are retaliating against a Covid masking policy that they never agreed with? Regardless, I'll never be shopping there again.
The Lake Geneva Chamber of Commerce tells me that they have no power/influence over Lake Geneva Antique Mall, as they are not Chamber of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I had often gone to L.G. Antique Mall many years ago. We had read some of the recent reviews, some negative, and still decided to go ahead and check the store out. Clearly they have had some issues with thefts, based on several signs on the doors before entering. I had a larger purse on me and was promptly told large bags were not allowed. I did not take offense, because there was a sign indicating this on the entry doors. I asked if they could hold my bag after I grabbed my wallet and phone, which they did. We found the store is still full of many treasures, as we had in the past. There is a great variety of antiques, well organized and definitely a worthwhile place to stop and shop. I would agree there is a bit of an uncomfortable awareness of employees keeping an eye on you. Hopefully the staff/owners may make themselves aware of this, and find a more balanced way of preventing thefts without estranging their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHorrible place. Woman behind counter was rude and discriminatory. She would not let us enter the shop because we were wearing medical masks. I have health concerns and was told by health experts that it was important that I protect myself in that way. We were from out of town and just finished decorating my parents' graves for Christmas. My parents had lived in Lake Geneva for many years. It was an emotional experience, and I needed some cheer. We drove by this antique mall, and I saw a nutcracker in the window - I just wanted to know the price. Then this rude woman confronted us when we entered the store wearing masks. I totally agree with other visitor's comments (multiple others have commented online) about the rudeness of employees, the ignorance of people in this shop and the blemish this brings on the town of Lake Geneva. AVOID this place - they are discriminatory, unwelcoming and bad for this...
