October 2, 2023: Folks it is time to find some gems, like a purse, winter coat, or snow boots.
I plan on going there this month. I'll let you know how good I did. Fingers Crossed! June 10, 2023:. Correction: I wanted to enjoy the last days of this glorious Spring 2023, so I went to my favorite store The Village. I had no problem with the Asian cashier and everything was discounted 50%, unless it was marked a certain price from the basement.
SORRY INCORRECT --- "My Rand McNally world computer map was not discounted about $4.50."
CORRECT --- "The Eye Witness Atlas of the World", ©1994, DORLING KINDERSLEY LIMITED, LONDON, DIGITAL MAPPING, Dr. David R. Green, The Department of Geography, King's College about $4.50.
The European young male boss was friendly, and I told him how upset I felt with the overcharge of $2.30 the last time I was in the store. In fact, I almost wrote to the owner in Blue Island, IL. But I didn't!
I found a new Calvin Klein long sleeve and small boat top neckline in a black and a bright purplish-pink camouflage pattern (L0L); a few more new tunic tops (a pretty Eddie Bauer summer-weight aqua with capped folded sleeves; a TIME and TRU fancy fabric of aqua & torquoise with tiny silver accents and mint green lace inserts on an irregular hemline; and a dressy TERRA SKY adjustable 3/4 length sleeve tunic blouse of 77% Rayon & 33% Cotton --- a pinkish-gold backgound, small delicate floral print in raspberry, and gray); a new SECRET Sleep wear pink sleeveless with details; only 3 new JC PENNY large white thick terrycloth hand-towels with needle work/one yellow tulip; and another new Kate Spate's kitchen towel, printed with "Add the Sauce"; and a regular box of Manila letter-size files for $2.25, not discounted. My cost $28.35.
I turned nothing away.
The cologne was over-priced and no recognizable names.
There were lots of Capri pants on the racks, but I buy mine from "Land's End".
I would have preferred a Rand McNally map book of the world. A digital rendition is blurry. April 28, 2023,
I shopped with my walker and glad I could sit along the way.
I found what I was after. The cashier, Rosa P., handled the check-out fraudulently. As an auditor ( CPA) I couldn't verify by line with price per item. Rosa over-charged me $2.10.
I made a mistake buying a bath towel that had a big hole from someone who carelessly pulled out the protection plug.
Rosa gave me some esoteric feedback, but I didn't catch on.
I sewed around the hole so there are no loose threads. But I still have the hole in a newish and colorful beach towel.
I had checked my basket so I could go downstairs. Rosa again tried to put it in places I wouldn't have to pay supposedly.
I didn't know I would be shocked for paying an additional $2.10, when I checked the basket in. I never was charged for that privilege before, and Rosa didn't give me a ticket either.
Run when you see Rosa P.
August 26, 2022: The only time you don't want to shop at the Village is prior to September.
For some reason there is an inventory problem. The students are not favored.
The better selection of winter clothes comes by September 20, or there about, when coats are available. And those that choose a coat now usually get the best that is available for the season.
Maybe the best selection is saved for the Christmas rush.
I've been buying new coats for the past few pandemic years. I wonder why? Lol June 2, 2022:. Must get there before the climatology season begins. I picked up 5 new tops, and the most expensive was $3.70, in size 1X.
They appear not worn.
However, the buyer should wash them first.
I did, and the red and the black have to be washed separately, 'cause the deep colors still bleed dye. Not too badly though!
Hi folks don't we love our Village.
Also did you read the bad press given to "Goodwill", and its e-commerce business getting all the...
Read moreMy husband and me have been clients of this store and others Village Discount Stores for more than 25 years, good clothes at good prices, but this is first time of my life I have a complaint about the "manager" of this store called "Yolanda" It was Saturday July 1st 2017. As always I was very glad with the good garments I found for me 2 blouses and 1 skirt. When I went to pay at the register, the Cashier looks mad and with a bad attitude, maybe was mad for something. When she took my garments, she start pulling out hard and breaking tickets, the price tickets was on the tag of the blouse and she started moving with the finger and said this are loose not sale, and took the other blouse and said again this is loose too not sale, and she took the skirt and said the same thing this is loose too, not sale. She pulled hard and broke those tickets one by one. I felt shock, very sad, because I wanted to buy it, and used next day for a special event. First time of my life that this happen to me at ones of this stores. I felt offended and very sad. I asked her who is the manager, and she said I am and you can not do anything. I asked for the supervisor of the store and she gave me the phone number of the same store (but I didn't know she gave me the same number of the store#10 where I was) When I called from the same store I saw her ran to the phone, she didn't know it was me. She then gave me another Phone number (I called and nobody answered) thats why I decided to write this e-mail to whom It may concern!!! If this manager "Yolanda" doesn't have a good attitude with clients she doesn't deserve been attending clients...
Read moreI shop here all the time, and unfortunately one thing that never changes is the cleanliness of the store. During my last shopping trip, I bought a bag of toys (Barbie dolls), and when I opened the bag on the way home, I had seen baby roaches entangled in each of the dollsâ hair, and they were still ALIVE. Thankfully I noticed before heading home so I had time to just toss the entire bag and its contents into a trash bin outside, far away from our apartment. It was hard to notice them in the store since the dollsâ hair were each very knotted and messy, and I was inspecting the bag for minutes before purchasing. I was only able to see them when I opened it up to unknot their hair, and they started to come out of hiding. Had I noticed them, I wouldnât have purchased them. So I ended up wasting money since the store doesnât accept returns, and they had to be thrown away. I wasnât going to risk infesting our home with German roaches. Keep in mind they were roach nymphs so they were very small and not fully developed, almost translucent in color, very easy to miss if youâre not looking. Honestly terrified to buy anything else again from this place. Inspect everything you buy...
