I like the Blue Claws Team but it is the stadium that I have a problem with. I attended the Blue Claws vs. West Virginia on 8/31/17 and found the food service to be atrocious! My wife and I started at the "Food Court" where we ordered a cheese burger, a hot dog, a french fry, and a prepackaged bag of peanuts in the shell. The dog/burger came in these foilized envelopes that once opened revealed a less than average product. The burger would make the typical fast food chain offering appear to be gourmet or deluxe while the dog was flavorless served on a crumbling roll that was either old or microwaved so it just fell apart. The fry was way under cooked, a long way from golden brown, that resulted in a pastey limp disappointment that even ketchup couldn't help. I then set my goal higher a tried a free standing kiosk offering Philly cheese steaks. The sandwich was assembled by a novice teen who had no regard for the quality of the end product. When I returned to my seat with the sandwich the again old bun just crumbled and spilled the entire contents into the try below making it impossible to eat. I just took it back and left it at the stand. The teen did offer me my money back and I replied that I didn't want my money back I just wanted something I could eat. My next stop was the Asian teriyaki stand. A mystery substance was scraped off the grill and deposited in a bowl on top of some grossly over cooked rice. Back at the seat again I picked through (chicken) skin and grizzle looking for meat. A burning of indigestion began immediately and I regretted eating what I did. In an effort to erase the taste in my mouth I went for the prepackaged bag of peanuts and found them to be rancid although dated through Dec. 2017. I did not get physically sick but felt close to it and was still not right the next morning. The sub contractor that runs the concessions at this stadium obviously buys close out and lowest possible grade merchandise. The team and the game can be fun...EAT...
Read moreA great spot to watch the future Phillies and future stars of MLB.
The stadium has the usual selection of hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream and sausage. Charlie's Pizza is my go-to food just about everytime I go, 2 slices and a soda for $12.00 is extremely reasonable and Mr. Miyagi's along the first baseline which I highly recommend. Many different kinds of meat cooked in front of you.
The Stadium features a Boardwalk style set up with games, mini-golf and lifeguard stands set up in the outfield. On the third base side is the Sandbar which has a stage for concerts on the weekends and $2 beer on Thursdays aka Thirst Thursdays.
Ticket prices have gone up over the last couple years but the organization always provide a great atmosphere and keep the fans interacted throughout the game with the Eye Ball Race, the Pork Roll, Egg and Cheese Race and Buster the mascot of the Blueclaws. Since the team is a Phillies farm team, the Phillie Phanatic comes up once or twice a year. Check the schedule to see when he is coming. Go to the Claws Clove which is the merchandise shop which has hats, shirts, jerseys, baseball cards and etc. Even some stuff for the Phillies, Mets and Yankees.
A large number of the fans are not interested in the game. The fans are more into the night out as opposed to the game. More often then not, fans stand up and talk with the group that they're in and don't even care if they are blocking anyones view. Ditto with the kids, seen many kids standing up and interfering with fans who want to watch the game.
My recommendation is to get a seat as close as possible like row 1-4 or get seats in back rows so you can stand up and hang out and not be rude to other fans. I've experienced this a lot over the last couple seasons and is the main reason why I haven't expanded my ticket package.
Have a good time, buy a beer bat, a couple slices of pizza, watch some fireworks and buy a hat....
Read moreNow here's a really nice minor league baseball ballpark. The single A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies (The Blue Claws) calls it home. What I really like about the place is that you can take a leisure stroll and walk your way around the park. So after you tried a couple of brews and had some of the many offerings from the concession stands. You can take a stroll and take pauses to watch the game from so many different angles. I love to sit on the grass or stop at the bar located in center field and sense the energy and effort put on by the outfielders as they run to catch up to a wayward fly ball. You can buy a serving of ice cream to complement your meal and cool yourself off a bit from the heat. The people who work there all wear tropical shirts which adds to the relaxing atmosphere. Been here a few times in the last couple of seasons and can't wait for next spring to return. I live in Brooklyn and the ride over the Verrazano and into New Jersey is just around an hour. Not bad at all for a real...
